I know I'm getting old listening to R2 and there are other channels to choose from.
But does anyone else find the morning slot of 1950, 60's music just pants?
Does anyone actually listen to this show?
Bbc radio on the wholes gone down the pan recently.
Zane lowe and some ofthe band specials areabout all i listen too
Ive gone back to local radio . The ads suck but at least the banters not london centric.
Planet rock or Absolute radio on the dab when in the house. Dave gorman on sunday am
6 music is king.
6 music is king
And long may it continue...
What you want is 9:30 on a tuesday, 'the organist entertains'
Does anyone actually listen to that
Danny Baker on a Saturday surely?
Sounds of the 60s is a great show and always has been.
Perhaps you are a hip yoof and need a constant diet of modernity.
At the risk of sounding like a teenager, Radio 2 is boooorrrrrrringgg....
I simply cannot listen to any radio with adverts - does any one actually respond to them?
6music's where it's at.
Disappointed with radio 1s new direction - they need sort it out, but that's a thread for another day...
Rusty Spanner - MemberDanny Baker on a Saturday surely?
+1, always, unmissable.

After the sad demise of A+J on BBC6, this^^
6 Music is pretty good but some stuff is a bit odd, there was poetry on the other day, do they still have comedy on an evening?
XFM is my default station of choice.
Or Zane Lowe/ Daniel P Carter's rock show on Radio 1.
Funny old world isn't it; as soon as Danny Baker comes on the radio, I turn it off! Sounds of the 60s on a Saturday used to be essential listening for (55yr old) me but it's mostly early 60s middle-of-the-road kind of stuff nowadays. Get my 60s fix on Mondays at 19.00 on Radio 2 now.
Thought it was just me; normally listen to Chris Evans in the morning and too lazy to retune on Saturdays. What Sounds of the 60s says to me is that whilst there was some good 60s music most of it was just awful.
Radio 4 is where its at.
Cant stand music on the radio.
50's / 60's is just god awful music.
My hatred engrained by having to listen to Jimmy Saville on a Sunday lunchtime as a child.
And furthermore engrained now we know of his antics behind the curtain in his dressing room alcove.

My In-laws (in their late 60s) do. I doubt that anybody younger would bother. From what I've heard, it's not music from the "swinging" late 60s, it's just bland.

I once emailed the BBC about that after being unfortunate enough to hear that anachronistic garbage "Grease megamix(I kid you not) on the Wurlitzer organ" by somebody named something like Reginald Shufflebottom, after Radliffe and Maconie (now moved to 6Music).
They claimed that it was very popular. Given that the heyday of the cinema organ was probably the 1930s, ie. ~80 years ago, I can't imagine that there are that many people still alive who would actively choose to listen to it.
6Music and Radio 4 are superb. The rest of the BBC's radio output can be switched off for all I care.
Gilles Peterson - 3pm Saturdays Radio 6 - job done.
Followed by 3 hours of Lister...
other stations are avalable...
In the car its either R2 or Borders (our local indie), at home Absolute Radio 80's or R2 (tea-time for Mayo).
The demise of A&J on 6music was a great moment. Nemone's show is great.

...for fans of Radio 4 comedy...*ahem*
p.s what you bench?
Clearly.
And, I don't know.
TOTALROCK all day long in the flat.
Radio city on the clock radio for getting me out of bed....utter cack !
OMG!
Provincial and BBC radio are SHITE
I've just moved from London to W. Yorks and now, if I forget the iPod then I'm forced to listen to dance music or radio 2/3/4 in the car.
At least I can still get 6, XFM and absolute on the DAB at home
Real XS then if I'm out of range CD's or now and again Radio 4 😯
I've been developing an unhealthy bout of Radio3itis recently. Been strangely enjoying it, especially the Early music show on Saturdays.
A bit of Baroque on a Saturday afternoon is surprisingly relaxing. 😯 😯
cerys Matthews on 6Music undermines the weekend output for me. Absolute or xfm or some random internet station goes in when she starts spouting crap pseudo intellectual poetry delivered as if she thinks she's in some hip 60s beat club with Andy Warhol listening while smoking a cigarillo in a holder, wearing a beret and sitting on a stool.
And recipes.
Craig Charles' funk and soul show is brilliant, however.
I tried 6Music yesterday morning and had to turn back. The DJ was crap and spoke over the records. It was like listening to some shitty local station.
Absolute are all over the tunes this morning .
Dab should be installed in all new cars 🙂 ( never going to happen since cheap cars still come with cassettes - can you even buy a new cassette ????
I had a whinge at R2 about the lame Saturday morning slot and was told it was one of their most popular programmes.
So it's just us. I struggle to understand how they balance the decent shows (Evans, Bruce, Mayo, Norton etc) with the rest of the crap that litters the schedule.
After Wogan today we get Elaine Paige - a truly dire presentation.
And therein lies the problem, one person's decent show is another person's crap.
You only have to read any favourite track thread here on STW to appreciate the random tastes for the most obscure and non-mainstream music going so, let's face it, we're not exactly Radio 2's target audience (well, not publicly anyway 8) ). Just to come out of the closet, I'm currently listening to a Katherine Jenkins CD... can't beat some opera on a lazy Sunday morning with the french doors thrown open to the sunshine 🙂

If it was Jon Holmes then I can understand your disappointment. He's not typical.
Just be grateful you didn't try listening when the absolutely terrible George Lamb was on 6Music, a couple of years ago.

Do remember, there are a lot of 60/70-somethings in this country. Although that doesn't explain the continuing 'popularity' of The Organist Entertains (which harks back to an era before the adulthood of my wife's 90-something grandmother). That show was similarly claimed to have strong listener numbers.
Radio 2 seems to be aiming for the somewhat-less-than-niche, middle-of-the-road 35-90 year old middle-England market. Since Radcliffe & Maconie were sent to their rightful home, I never listen to it.
Great mysteries of our time:
Why don't the BBC put 6Music onto FM?
Well, the good news is that EP appears to have caused some sort of catastrophic meltdown in the studio so we've ended up with Alan Dedicoates looking after things from the news booth and playing some decent music.

Me, i think its a nice sound, sorta wistful in a way.
To put my varied musical tastes into context i went to see the sublimely chilled richard hawley (get to know if you dont) in leeds last tuesday then raved my bottom off at stanton warriors (dirty breaks and filthy bass) in manchester last night. Boomting!
Its all subjective anyroad.
Reception has gone down the pan over the last about 6 onths round here - I wonder if they've cut the power output or somethingDab should be installed in all new cars
