Union leaders are going into talks with MPs over a plan they claim could end the long-running row on Southern.
The rail company has been in dispute for more than a year with the RMT over changes to guards' roles on trains.

Why doesn't the RMT have a go at running a railway 😉

We've got this crazy franchising system, which has increased the cost to the end user to an unsustainable amount, has introduced layers of corporate bureaucracy, is subject to micromanagement by the Department For Transport and from where I'm sitting has brought little benefit in terms of journey times and has made everyone - including the taxpayer - worse off.

I follow the Association of British Commuters on FB, there's a large number of disabled passengers who require assistance to board and exit trans who are being left to it on platforms. Something needs to be done and slashing costs by sacking train staff in order to prop up shareholders' dividends isn't the answer.

Excellent idea.
And RMT (or the other one) get to pay compensation to season ticket holders out of union coffers. Might make them think twice about going on strike.

I imagine they probably could.

Train drivers just keep moving round the TOCs spiralling their wages upwards. Its a direct result of the privatisation of the railways, and completely foreseeable.

Somethings not right when train drivers get paid more than airline pilots - particularly when they start wittering on about safety. The sad fact that if they'd kept the railways under single ownership and made some investment, we'd have automated trains.....

"Why doesn't the RMT have a go at running a railway"

Conflict of interest, innit.

We don't even get a whistle to blow at 4am when driving through sleepy towns. 🙁
