Well at least he's right size now.. pity he's too talkative...
they are trolling Tiny Tom
I'll give this a go. Not sure there will ever be a 'right' Reacher though. Every readers image of him will vary so much.
This one seems a bit jokey.
yup. that looks cool!
DrP
Is it a movie or a series?
As Zippy said - at least he looks about the right size! Probably a bit more chiselled than Reacher is (in the books) but I suppose this is "Hollywood". Again, not sure he's quite nailed the character but could be good to watch. Love the books so it will be interesting to see how they tackle it. Are they doing the books, a book per episode or are they mixing books with newly created content?
Excellent! Cheers for the heads up. I know they're trash ,but I love the books.
Now if only they could do C.J.Box's Joe Picket game warden books too that would be ace.
Looks a bit meh tbh. Main guy looks the double of a plank of wood.
Anyone is better than TC
Hope they go for a novel per series and start with Killing Floor. First few books are pretty good thrillers but then he started suddenly developing borderline super powers. I still love reading them though prefer the John Milton books now.
I always pictured Reacher more lanky and grizzled than that. But I like that actor, he was good in Titans.
Looks like at some of that is from 'Nothing to Lose'
Much of the trailer - prison fight and sunglasses, Margrave, Georgia - is from killing floor.
They may have weaved in some other bits.
Look mint
Looks a bit meh tbh.
I just don't get this. It doesn't look meh. If you're a Reacher type of person then it's looks pretty good. If you're not a RTP then fine, but then why would you comment on the thread.
This is huge, as far as trashy mindless novel screen adaptations go.
It brilliant that they've binned the short arse and actually got someone who vaguely resembles the character to play the lead.
Cmon. What exactly is it that you don't think is up to the job of doing credit to he unparalleled literary genius of Messrs Child?
As I said onvthe actor you hate thread. Tom Cruise wasn't credible as Reacher.
This looks good. I'm a fan. I first got into the books when I bought some in second hand stores as I was cycling across the USA. Reading the hooks at night and cycling through Reacher style small towns and deserts by day.
Now if only they could do C.J.Box’s Joe Picket game warden books too that would be ace.
Wow...thought I was the only person who read those!
Nope 😁 Wouldn't Nate Romanowski be amazing character in a film?
I’ll definitely give this a watch. At worst it’ll be good fodder for on the turbo. Do agree that although they’ve got the size right, doesn’t look as weathered as I’d expect
He def smiles too much

I'm more than a little envious!
He def smiles too much
+1 also doesn’t look grizzled enough imho
Looks ok though.
Looks quite good, might have to actually get signed up to an amazon product for once.
+1 with regards to the short bloke.
I always kind of thought Reacher was mildly amused by everything happening around him. I like the look of this. Glad that they found a more credible version for it.
Sorry if I've missed it but is this a movie or a tv series?
Looks good!
It’s a series, looks like it’s a book per series.
I think I’ll be signing up to prime again!
Another C J Box fan too, there must be lots somewhere!
I've read CJ Box too .......
Tom Cruise wasn’t credible as Reacher.
I haven't read the books but a friend has and told me that Reacher was supposed to be a really big guy. I watched the movie after hearing that and TC was not credible. I think TC has done some great roles, but Reacher was not one of them. Looking forward to the TV series.
I have the same feeling about Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Robert Carlyle in Trainspotting. They are both excellent actors but the characters in the books were much bigger guys and I found it distracting seeing little guys in those roles.
Nope 😁 Wouldn’t Nate Romanowski be amazing character in a film
Yes definitely! Wish someone would do it
I think I’ll be signing up to prime again!
Next season of 'The Expanse' begins next week, and that new Riz Ahmed film goes live the same day, too.
Btw if you like rubbishy books about game wardens there's another series by Paul Dorian about a warden called Mike Bowditch.....
Hopefully they will refuse to cover the last 4 or 5 books, esp the new one, which was pure drivel.
Looks good to me.
I'd like to see TC stood next to the new fella 😄
Of course for those of us who long ago moved beyond Key Stage 2 so haven’t read the books - and therefore don’t know or care what the main character is “supposed” to be like - the TC movies are perfectly reasonable action films 😉
chapeau zilog6128 🤣
I've enjoyed the Reacher books I've read but then again I also enjoy Warhammer 40k books...
The Amazon series looks good - but I also thought the TC films were ok.
Lolz at zilog, fair point 😀. I quite enjoy some easy reading at bedtime and love the Jack Reacher books. I was a little disappointed when Tom Cruise played him because I think Reachers size is a huge part of his personality and character, but agree that Cruise did a good job and the films are enjoyable.
This series look good though, very happy to see someone a lot bigger and less serious than Tom Cruise. Looking forward to it.
Not read the books, only seen the two Tom Cruise movies.
Are the books supposed to be comedy? It looks like Dolph Lundgren playing in the modern McGuyver series.
Are the books supposed to be comedy?
At times, the fact he’s not exactly Mr Incognito factors fairly often
Are the books supposed to be comedy?
Not written as an out and out comedy, but I'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to take them that seriously either
Hopefully they’ll use the Bosch template of (approximately) one book per series. I thought that worked well.
So, it’s out. I’ve not read the books but after the first episode looks like a thumbs up from me so far.
It is? Cool.
On what channel?
Amazon Prime
First episode was superb.
Forgot about this.👍
Binge watching it and up to episode three. Really enjoying it
^^Where are you getting the other eps from?
The books are ok. Easy reading if nowt else.
All episodes are on Prime
It’s a series, looks like it’s a book per series
What really. Bloody hell that's s lot of episodes.
Serious moral dilemma. Love reacher, hate Amazon

I'm an idiot, could have sworn there was only one episode available.
Read lot of the books and i think the seties is rather fine myself 👌
2 episodes in and it's bloody brilliant so far. Captured the Reacher I imagined from the books really well.
Same here - 2 episodes in and glued to it!
Only on ep 2, but he's a way better Teacher than Cruise.
Yep I likey.

Are you discussing the book version?
It is far better than the movies. A little bit overly ultra-violent.
The actor they chose..... well....... when he comes out with smart stuff I just can't associate his mannerisms and voice with the actual statements.
It's good, trashy fun though.

Yup exactly this.
I've not read the books but I enjoy a trashy action/crime type series. This is just ok IMO. Will probs watch the rest.
It's no Burn Notice 😛
I haven't read the books but I watched the first movie and this makes more sense to me. It's entertaining if you don't think about how preposterous the entire thing is.
Watched 6 episodes last with my wife and we loved it for what it is 😁
I'm a fan of the books too,a guilty pleasure.
Im a fan of the books too,a guilty pleasure.
Same here, not the sort of book I’d read but I picked up a copy at the in-laws & got hooked.
At the time I was travelling to LA a lot - they were a good way of passing time in airports & on flights.
Enjoying the series. The new guy’s no Tom Cruise acting-wise but he does his thing well!
Makes me laugh though, everyone’s gushing how perfect the guy is for the role - he’s hardly the Mountain! What is he, 6’2”? Thought Reacher was supposed to be a giant? They’re using exactly the same tricks here they did in the Cruise movies, with the camera angles & tiny co-stars 😂
Binged 5 episodes this afternoon/evening, we're lovin it!
Finished it already. When will we know if there’s to be a second season?
He looks about 6'2" wide let alone tall. Must eat less protein...
The books are a bit of a guilty pleasure, not high art but easy to consume without too much indigestion. Not everything has to be Ulysses...
The new fella's acting is a bit wooden but then the presentation feels a bit 1970's TV movie to me. Happy to watch it, it's obviously much better than 'z listers eat insects on ice' or some such...
On the Bosch front, there's a new, Baller & Bosch book out which, so far, is pretty good.
I think it’s pretty good. It’s never going to be quite how you imagine it from the books yourself, but it’s striking the right tone. I didn’t mind the Tom C one to be honest, but this is better. Seems more suited to a series than the one off movie style. Agree that the books are easy reading and very moreish.
Enjoyed first three last night.
It’s a bit A-Team isn’t it.
I mean the books are too but the series seemed more so.
Captures Reacher quite well, bit wooden.
the presentation feels a bit 1970’s TV movie to me.
There's something slightly comforting about that though. Bit embarrassed to say but I'm really enjoying shows that have a bit of that Diagnosis Murder or Quincy type vibe but a bit more modern.
Burn Notice and White Collar also have a bit of that about them.
Amusingly, the actor is apparently 6'2" per imdb.
On wiki his height is down as 6'5".
Some cunning editing going on there.
For those that say the new version of Reacher is wooden, isn't that a fair representation of the character?
For those that say the new version of Reacher is wooden, isn’t that a fair representation of the character?
Maybe. When I'm reading it, I get the feeling he's quite 'transactional' or focused if you prefer rather than wooden. If the actor/director is trying to present as wooden, they're doing a brilliant job.
Watched the first three episodes last night and though it was excellent. I’ve read most of the books, find them very easy reading and good entertainment. From the episodes so far they seem to have captured Reachers character very well, and the nature of the book it’s based on (Killing Floor).
Like!
Its alright, some of the deductions to move the story on are total hokum, but the actrion scenes are excellent. The guy playing Reacher will always be Thad from Blue Mountain State to me though.
For those that say the new version of Reacher is wooden, isn’t that a fair representation of the character?
I would say so, yes, although I'd describe him as taciturn rather than wooden.
Enjoyed that, pretty fair adaptation of the books, like Bosch was. Would watch another series
I would say so, yes, although I’d describe him as taciturn rather than wooden.
People who think that's 'wooden' need to watch Virgin River for research purposes, the guy who plays 'Jack' on that makes a statue look animated. He has maybe one and a half facial expressions and a single tone of voice. The Reacher fella is Olivier in comparison.
