Just been quoted by a local plumber for doing a gas safety check and installing a pair of bathroom basin and bath taps (supplied by us). Price came in at £170. Based outside of York. Trying to figure if this too much.
Somewhere between not unreasonable and too cheap, depending on how many appliances and ease of access and amendments needed to the tap pipework.
Still a fair amount of money for a couple of hours work, but you're paying for knowledge and experience, and someone else buying tools you would only use once a decade.
It's one boiler and gas hob. Basin tap is rigid pipe and from memory the bath is a flexi fit. Would get the tools and try the taps myself but the missus won't let me haha.
I've just paid £50 for a Gas Fire service and safety check. Last year with another plumber it was £60 so your quote seems about right.
Sounds pretty cheap to me. I’ve fitted both of those sorts of taps multiple times and if I could have afforded it I would have paid that. It’s basically a days labour plus the safety check certificate costs.
Not unreasonable, tap changes can be a pain, gas safety checks are usually £50-80 depending on where you are and what appliances are involved.
Some basins the access is so small that you need a couple of different tap spanners. And bath taps can be awkward too, removing a panel, sometimes removing the overflow. If they've been there a long time or have been made in with putty they sometimes need cutting out. That will possibly have been factored into the estimate.
If it is someone who has been recommended to you or someone you've used before and you trust their work then I can't really see the problem.

Seems on the cheap side of reasonable to me, I would have probably charged something like £100 inc Vat/parts for the taps swap (ex york plumber)
cheers for the comments folks. Last time we had the safety check done it was £50. He did some other work for us that was well priced. But seems to not do plumbing anymore.
looks like this quote is around £70 for safety certificate and £50 each for the pair of taps. So guess it's ok.
Seems right enough, if fittings and VAT are included in the £170.
Result. Thought our old plumber had retired. He hadn't. He's coming round tomorrow to do the whole lot for £130.
