Forgive me if this is a silly, easily resolvable "thing" .........
When folk post up links as either straight up URLs:
Or as fancier links:
Why does my web browser navigate away from the STW page off to the link rather than open a new tab/window etc?
Its frustrating clicking links only to then have to back track though various pages to get back to the original thread.
I know I could just copy and paste the URL but thought I would ask the question first!
Other sites seemingly open a new tab/window automatically.
Am I doing owt wrong?
Cheers,
A much confused MArk
Because that's how the internet works.
Try right-clicking or middle-clicking if you have a 3-button mouse
Because that's how the page is written.
Try right clicking and open in new window/page.
You can hold ctrl and then left click for a new tab too. Or if you're on a laptop, try double tapping.

Not on all sites 😉
Mac user so just the one button 🙂
Use the control button thingy on a mac... or if you get firefox you can set it up to always open a new tab.
simplz.
If you are using Safari, you can customise the setup in your prefs, so links will open in a new tab, new window etc, depending on what key you press. Have a play around with the settings and see what works for you.
Generally, ctrl-click will open in a new tab, shift-click in a new window. Your Browser May Vary.

Let me re-phrase....because that is the internet standard.
because that is the internet standard.
On a point of pedantry that's not strictly accurate either; it's simply that it's default behaviour unless you explicitly code it to do something else.

So, it's the standard way of doing it then?
