Bought a Vango Tay 300 tent for the offspring to do a little garden camping in all this good weather.

It lasted about twenty minutes before the fabric around the inner zip came away completely. Total rubbish! Cotswold have, I should add, handled it perfectly, and arranged an immediate free return and refund.

Requirements;
3-4 people
Garden/car camping, never going to be carried so weight not an issue
Sturdy, well made kit
Decent height inside
Good porch space
Ventilation of some sort
Pitching outer first would be ideal, as it could be used as a sun shelter as well
Budget? Under £200, I think.

This might be a good option, would welcome any thoughts/experience/reviews, etc - https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/vango-beta-350xl-tent-D1414134.html?colour=106

Thanks in advance.

Why buy another Vango when your experience supports the view that their standards have slipped a lot?? Both friends and the local scouts have had bad experiences with Vango tents recently.

I prefer Decathlon tents these days.

Whatever suits your needs from decathlon. Personally I'd be going for Ann inflatable.

Is that what you call her?

£60. Worth a punt, I reckon.

Vango Beta are good. Still the cheaper range (but not as cheap as a Tay).

A Vango Galaxy is a good option for warm sleeping and ability to stand up.

Coleman make some good tents for campsites - e.g. https://www.outdooraction.co.uk/tents-tents-by-size-4-man-tents/coleman/coleman-darwin-4-tent-2020-pd-10409.php?gclid=CjwKCAjw2a32BRBXEiwAUcugiLxlywV0FStPlFN060UbzRpAbhpU114Nh35QA4n5ODkTBKY8m6rkZRoCeYYQAvD_BwE

For compact - Alpkit Visio seems good

Coleman Coastline series are good quality for the price, we have the 3 man version. Groundsheet for the porch has raised sides all round which is a neat feature.

Personally I’d be going for Ann inflatable.

Is this the kind of thing you buy from a specialist grown ups shop?

We have a Vango Beta 350XL which has survived my partner camping in Wales when trees were being blow down and caravans were being blown over. A sea kayaking week in Anglesey with winds up to force 10. A week in Mull at Fidden farm with lots of wind all without problem. We have also been camping without lots of wind. You can sit it the living area with a camping chair. The tent is great for two but might be on the small side with four people.

Happy with our Coleman. Ours is a bit bigger than you need but the blackout bedrooms are great. Get one with that option if you can.

I've done a load of camping one way or another and I can't recommend the Decathlon tents enough. I currently have 4!

Aye, I quite like my Decathalon 4 man air tent. Think it is £200? Very quick to pitch/take down.
Sleeping bit in the back half, front half is a porch. Has blackout fabric so you get a good sleep.
Has dealt with wind and rain well.

My Decathlon Quechua Air Seconds 4.2 (I think).

Tents were getting blown all over the place at y-not festival, but this remained solid. Takes 10 minutes to put up (everyone was envious while battling with poles). Technically a 4 man but better as a 2 man. Bigger ones are available though

It did get a leak after it's second festival and Decathlon were going to replace the tube, but as there was a bit of a wait to get one, they replaced the whole tent

I'd also suggest Decathlon.

Have got the big inflatable one and its great. Goes up in minutes and down again quickly. Only downside is it is heavy to carry. Smaller ones would be a bit better but its large comfy, seems waterproof and windproof.

Hve also done some nights out in the garden with the kids and it doesn't get too hot either.

My Decathlon Air-Seconds at Greenman a couple of years ago. I had a number of people come and ask me about it as well. Bought a ground sheet at the same time, took about twenty minutes from finding a pitch to sitting outside watching people struggle for an hour to put up smaller tents!

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon but I'd struggle to look beyond Decathlon for general camping needs.

Update...

Got one of these.

https://www.blacks.co.uk/equipment/351937-eurohike-avon-3-dlx-nightfall-tent-red.html

Pretty much ideal for needs. Going up outer first makes it a great sun shelter, decent porch area and inner up and it's a good size for garden camping with the children.

We decided to get a new tent too. Decathlon Arpenaz 3 XL. Our Outwell is great for longer trips but drying it is a pain so for weekend trips we are going to try two small tents and a tarp between them.
