got a flickering light, which only stays on if you keep pressure on the switch.
isolated the leccy, had a look and theres a wire come out. pretty sure i know which terminal it came from as out of the two spare theres one of them screwed right back out which i assume wont be the correct one.
just for confirmation, its a straight light on or off, no other switch, ive got a live/brown wire into COM, and im about to connect the 'blue with a brown sleeve' wire to L2, leaving an empty L1.
that ok? something tells me i could probably connect to either of these L's but thought id check here first as youre all qualified experts 😉
cheers
STOP! If you get this wrong your switch will operate the wrong way up and there is a risk you won’t bother to put it right.
Yeah the L2 is for 2-way switching, assuming this is just for 1-way if you use L2 it’ll be on when up & vice versa (I think, IANAE 😀)
ok ive stopped 🙂
so.... L1 then yes?
Be bold, connect it to L2! If the switch operates the wrong way round just mount the switch upside down. 😁
Either L1 or L2 will work, just means the switch operates the other way, i.e. up for on, or down for on. If it was the 'right' way before, put it back where you think it came from (L2), or swap them. You can try it before screwing the faceplate back to the wall to make sure. I think this was what the Buccaneer was getting at....
haha, swapped it to L1, power on, all seems ok. apart from the fact it seems that half the house lighting is correctly on the consumer unit as 'lighting' but the bedrooms arent. good job i checked before touching anything, looks like the other half of the lights are on the same fuse as the alarm. i'll have to mark that up on the box.
thanks a lot.
Make sure you turn the power off first, ideally by the main switch on your fuse board and not the breaker.

Easy peasy to fix. Good luck 👍
Yeah I generally turn the whole house off. Only use the individual circuits for protection.
The builders labeled our oven and shower circuits wrongly. Good job I checked before opening up the 10kw circuit when I changed the shower isolation switch.
