I’ve always liked my music and many many years ago purchased a tag 60i amp (audiolab 8000), a pair of Monitor Silver 8i speakers and a marantz KI CD player. The CD player has now gone and the only input source I have is my Sonos connect. I’ve used the hifi setup as the front stage for my home cinema and have an utterly ancient Yamaha receiver doing centre and rear and a REL quake sub. I want to get rid of some black boxes so looking at two options, get rid of the receiver and buy a soundbase to go under the tv or sell both the amp and receiver and update to something current with HDMI, Arc return etc. I don’t want to lose much in the way of quality when listening to music so wondering what current receivers would be a good option. I listen to electronic music a lot so I need a fast paced amp similar in character to the TAG so Yamaha AV receivers are out of the equation. I popped into loud and clear in Glasgow, they couldn’t be arsed talking options, said but an arcam but not interested in doing a demo (a shame as they always used to be great), so looking for ideas....... cheers

I’d go with a decent hdmi receiver acting as a preamp for an audiolab power amp for the fromt pair. Mine is a small Onkyo which I’m pleased with. You could even take the preAmp output straight into an aux on your TAG if you wanted.

Are you streaming lossless via the Sonos? That would at least take the place of the KI. Is the CD player skipping? I took mine apart a few times for the main bearing which was basically a ball bearing subject to occasional dust!

Oh and add a chord dac too.

NAD make receivers which are focussed as much on music as they are on home cinema. My T748 is great for music, which I play via a Sonos connect. The downside of NAD stuff is the lack of digital features like phone apps, built in Spotify etc
