Currently got gas oven & hob.
Mrs has decided she’d rather have an electric oven with gas hob.
There is a 3 pin socket behind the oven atm but I’ve no idea if this is suitable to run an oven from or just ‘legacy’ from previous kitchen layout.
Do I need a specific spur for the oven or can I just use that? (Assuming fuse ratings are ok.)
check the power rating of the oven. some can be run from a normal ring main, some require a specific 30 amp feed. I wouldn't run it from a plug tho - I would replace the socket with a fused spur box
If your fuse box has one marked up as 'cooker' then you likely have a fused spur already. If you don't, then make sure you get one done as TJ said
Ok, I’ll take a look in the fuse box.
It’s only about 2m from where the cooker will be (via the pantry back wall) so I assume not too expensive to get a proper fused spur sorted.
There's an outside chance that it is a dedicated oven/hob feed with a decent cable on it so you could replace the socket to allow for a higher current rating but you'd need to check the cable for that and if there is a dedicated circuit on the consumer unit. If it is just a 13A socket then you can run a sub 3kw oven. Plenty around at this rating so you'll have some choice.
