Question for (Dublin) Runners

Anyone know Dublin, particularly as a runner?

I'm there working next week staying in a hotel on the Grand Canal in the Charlemont area. I'd like to get two runs in while I'm there. My plan for run one is to head out of the hotel, turn right, run along the canal for about 2 miles and then turnaround and head back. My plan for run two is to head out of the hotel, turn left, run along the canal to the Grand Canal Dock, run around the dock for a bit and then head back along the canal.

Anything I need to know?

Not a lot to know...going west you need to remain on the south side of the Canal. Lots of traffic lights, but you can skip most if you don't mind going under the bridges using the towpath - probably not lit at night. Going east is probably more pleasant, stay on north side of Canal, alongside the cycle track. You can do a full lap of the dock if you cross the lock, but again possibly not at night. Maybe instead cross the Liffey before turning around and retracing your steps.

We're kms not miles though over here so when you leave the hotel you'll have to run about 3 and a bit km before turning around!!!

Seriously though as above you could add a bit to the Grand Canal Dock run by going over the (east link) toll bridge, running down the docks a bit and coming back over the Millennium bridge or running up and down the docks a few bridges.

Also personally I'ld prefer to do 2 grand canal runs and mix them up instead running the other way - it's generally a nicer area that way towards the liffey.

Thanks both. If going East is a nicer run than going West I certainly don't mind going that way twice.

If I have to run in km, does that mean I have to run faster?
