Morning, had a few windows installed taking out knackered nearly 100 year old ones. There is a significant gap between the new window and the interior trim (you can put your hand into the cavity. Gap will be filled with some rigid insulation and foam, and builder has suggested approx 10mm h wide piece of pvc to cover. I’m wondering whether wood would be better. All the trim will be redecorated eventually. My worry with pvc is that it’ll scratch up and look rubbish quickly whereas wood can be refinished.
Also what caulk is recommended, loads of options.
Standard window fitment would be to use plastic trim, it's cheap, easy to cut, matches the plastic windows and won't require painting, it shouldn't really get scratched any more than your window frame would, unless your using sandpaper to clean them...!
A timber trim may look nicer if you prefer that look, but will require continuous painting going forward, will be more timely to fit initially.
Caulk - best stuff to but is CT1, it's a pain table adhesive and will actually stick the 2 pieces together, Caulk is basically just chalk and water mixed up and will always eventually crack
PVC will be fine. I've put some in as window sills and its really practical. The plants can sit on it and get watered without any issues. No visible scratches on this and its a working surface . Not as pretty as a piece of oak but zero maintenance.
Plastic it is then. and I meant 10cm not 10mm but I imagine you guessed that 🙂
Builder is awol again. Its a friday after all....
Why are the windows 100mm short?
That's bit tight, should have a maximum tolerance of 20mm overall - that's 10mm either side
