So JC doesn't watch the Xmas day queen's speech or seem to know when it's on. Another attempt to show that he's not a patriot or somesuch bollocks. Shows me he's not an arse licking aristos toady. For feks sake Julie Etchingham, he's a socialist, man of the people, for the many not the few.

He’s just gone up in my estimation. I’ve never watched it either.

he’s a socislist

Have you been drinking? 🙂

The funny bit about the exchange isn't whether he watches or not, he obviously doesn't, like most of us. But rather than be straightforward, just say that, and risk offending the blue rinses, makes up some half-hearted bullshit where he claims that his household watches it.

Even I know that the QS is on in the afternoon, despite not watching it for years.

60 odd million people in the UK don't watch it either. I've never seen it in my life and I don't know anyone who watches it.

Yep! Why not just say, "Not something I watch"?

Never watched it myself. Usually elbow deep in to the claret by then!

Hopefully the kind of vintage which is for the few, not the many!

Think the OP is confused by the difference between patriot and royalist.

It seems most MP's, no matter what party, have an automatic lie response that just kicks in when under scrutiny.

No actually I think the majority of English voters are confused by royalist and patriot.

Given the choice between our Head of State, and the greater majority of Presidents around the world, I’ll stick with the Queen, but as far as the Queen’s Speech is concerned, whenever my mum used to watch it I’d find something else to do, and now she’s passed, there’s no chance!

And Bozo's answer to the same question would undoubtedly be 'I support the monarchy and am a unionist so yes, of course, I always watch the Queen's speech'.
Another lie from dripping from his alcohol stained lips.

I've gone from being ambivalent to the Royal family to rapidly becoming a republican.

Time for them to go.

Bizarrely in America you're not a true patriot if you don't love the sitting president and wave a flag.

Seems Americans don't know the difference either.

Working for one of its larger institutions I can safely say the majority of Americans are absolute moron territory.

Sadly, as with many things, the U.K. seems to be following along as the loyal lapdog...

I’ve never watched it either or dam busters or 633 squadron. Clearly I’m a communist. I’d love for a Beafeater to throw me in the tower though. Who doesn’t want to be man handled by a man with a fancy hat and a ruff.

It seems most MP’s, no matter what party, have an automatic lie response that just kicks in when under scrutiny.

They have to, as every thing they say could be taken out of context and put onto front page. This has unfortunately led to very cagey answers and mostly non-answers.

The lie he should have told is that yes he watches the Queen's speech, next question. It is not worth the hassle (headlines, follow up questions for months etc,.) of telling the truth a lot of the time and that is where his naivety and poor leadership is most shown.
Another example is the mess he get's into with nuclear weapons. Would you press the button if required, "Yes", next question. Whether he would or not is irrelevant as firstly he won't be Prime Minister and secondly if we get to that question we all ****ed anyway

Yep, good point. That smaller lie would have made it even less of an issue than it deserved to be. Most people know he'd never watch it, and most people wouldn't give two hoots if he lied and said that he did watch it. Fluffing around it builds it in to a story and makes him look stupid. See also Rayner on the telly this morning, saying he might watch it on catch up.

FFS, stop digging!

Can't believe we're criticising a politician for struggling to lie.

No time for Corbyn (or Boris for balance) but there are bigger and much more important issues than what the man watches on Christmas Day.

Why don't interviewers focus on what's actually having an affect on our country, like the division of society, the climate, social inequality, trade and economics rather than this "Smash Hits" question. In fairness Smash Hits might at least have stuck to whether he was a little mix or spice girls fan.

He's outed himself as a member of the upper class! Historically they would still refer to the early afternoon period as morning- I think there's a reference in Lady Windermere's Fan to a time, like 2pm, as morning.
