Today I got to use that very answer, was so chuffed to have finally got it out there!! He was somewhat taken aback by my cheery response then tried to go a little postal 😆
Good job.
Awesome. It's wonderful turning peoples' points of view around on themselves.
He sprinted out of his driveway It's a place I've ridden since I was 15, that's 20 yrs or so. I wasn't being arsey but he started to rant about footpaths in Devon being closed due to mountainbikers (spat with venom). We had a "chat" for a coupla minutes and I suggested he vent his anger at the idiots who hang shit in trees!! I didn't see one walker whilst riding said area whilst I was there!!
I just say I'm establishing 'prior use' for the future, smile and ride off.
what footpaths have been closed in devon ? i'm not aware of any.
i rather suspect that the gentleman was and indeed is, a prize asshat.
Damn, I've been told off the previous 2 weekends and failed to repond with an answer like that.
Maybe this weekend......
Yeah and bearing in mind I was riding in the middle of derbyshire he obviously travels a lot to go for walks!!!!!! 🙄

aren't they ?
we had one guy in austria start waving his stick at us as we were preparing to enter a trail.
one of our guys had a long discussion with him explaining how our tyres were doing no more damage than his boots to the trail. this old man then said he'd phone the police. when asked how they'd catch us he said he'd take a photo. so we all stood in front of his camera with all our bike clobber (bags, helmets, etc) and donned our sunnies and he took a picture. we all rode off down the trail with the old fool shouting german obsceneties.
don't quite know what he ever did with that picture or how he thought he should identufy us to the police.
another one that sticks in my mind was some hairy south tirolean that stopped us in his car as we were crossing a track in order to get to the next section of trail. he said that we shouldn't be there as we were damaging the environment. we then pointed out the irony of what he was saying whilst sitting there with his dirt covered car's engine running. we asked where the mud came from and whether he would replace it from where it came and just how much CO2 our group of four had produced getting up, over and down the pass.
he then asks where we were planning on sleeping that night and gives us his B&B business card. as if we're going to stay with you, you bike fascist!
