I defacate at will...... am I irresponsible too? 😯

PS: Any of my neighbours who complain about my cat are offered the choice of Cat Pepper or a Super Soaker at my expense. Seems to be fine with them, and the cats made it to 16 without any undue psychological problems,.

Cats are the best thing since sliced bread, it's a fact. Dogs are bloody woeful creatures, noisy, generally disobedient, smelly, demanding. Cats, on the other hand, are quiet clean and calming. Kicking any animal is pathetic, regardless of reasoning. And for the record, as a long term cat keeper, our cats never shat in anyone elses garden - they had a favourite spot in ours, and all the studies about cats killing birds are remarkably questionable in the scientific basis. Just as questionable as if I did a study to find out how many people had been bothered by neighbours dogs barking at studid times of the night, leaving dog eggs, peeing on things etc. Having any pet is a luxury, I cant believe we are going down the route of rating their antisocial levels.

coffeeking

And your experience is what? Anecdotal?

You have two cats, it's hardly a representative sample is it?!

The British Mammalian Society study was based on 986 cats living in 618 households. Not conclusive I grant you but better than 'my two shat in my own garden'

In a five month period the moggies in the report took a total of 14370 species. I think that even if someone would have wanted to skew these results then the skewing would be down not up with cat owners hiding the fact that they are in charge of a very efficient killing machines.

My guess is that cats may be one of the main drivers in urban areas for causing population collapse in a wide range of fauna - I say collapse as I recognise cats as not the only culprit but the ones likely to finish the job off - I'm sure someone can come up with scientific proof on that one.

You have ABSOLUTELY NO WAY of proving that, unless you follow your cat around 24/7

This thread is like a bar fight in a Western. People come in trying not to get involved, but then someone spills their drink, breaks a chair over their head, or punches their wife in the face, and it's fists a-flying. 🙂

We don't mind cats coming into our garden. Makes for good viewing when they see our bull mastiff running toward them.

Bloody amazing how fast a cat can clear a 2m fence! 😆

So, is me kicking a cat more or less cruel than someone else letting their dog attack it? For starters, it would have to be a very daft cat not to have moved by the time I got to it, and I hardly move at bull mastiff speed!

Yet still no answer? Could it be that kicking a cat that's daft enough to still be there by the time I get to it is less cruel than letting a dog kill it?

Yes IMO. However I wouldnt let my dog attack a cat, I just have to be aware it could happen and take measures to prevent it, but my risk assesment has decreed that leaving my dog unattended in the back garden is acceptable. In all my years of dog ownership I've only had a dog kill a few rats and a pidgeon in the back garden. If I owned a pet python my risk assesment would change as I'm not sure a python would be so friendly to small children or as easily noticed by a cat.

Now can you please shut the **** up?

No.

But why can't the cat owners take responsibility for their pet and keep it out of my garden?

As has been said numerous times throughout this thread, cats can be trained if the owners put the effort in. By training them not to enter my garden, they'd mitigate the risk. Alternatively, I'll carry on my form of training until they learn.

I do hope you didn't attack a defenceless animal, as surely that would be cruel, and a_a will threaten you to make him feel like a hard man

I don't quite beleive I'm reading this! So are you saying that pythons or for that matter cats are a greater risk to children in the UK than pet dogs???

You see there you have it bloody dog owners never seem to understand how dangerous and annoying their pets are to other people.

Hands up everyone who has ever heard of either a cat or for that matter a python savaging a child in the UK. Now compare with documented cases of dog attacks.

I have no idea I dont and never have owned a cat ask those that own these problem cats, dont kick the poor cat. I may be many things but I am certainly not a hard man nor do I want to be I do however have a temper when provoked by certain things, amongst them is mindless cruelty to animals.

I once beat the living crap out of a lad I found repeatedly kicking a cat he had cornered for (literally) kicks. But then again I also did the same to another young lad that threw a lit banger at a mother and her young toddler in a push chair and also an older bloke in the middle of a road rage incident smashing in the car of a terrified young girl (I lived in a nice neighborhood!) so I'm not discriminatory. However, I would never use force against an animal.

What separates us from other animals is our power of reason and logic and our ability to understand and reason right from wrong. I have no issue(although many others would) with exerting violence against humans that have that choice and choose the anti social path but doing the same to an animal unable to make those decisions is imo inhuman.

Mr Zokes, I'm sure you could imagine the reaction if we were ever to meet!

Blimey, I make that three or four 'people' on here now actually threatening me with direct violence. You're all exceedingly brave to do so over the internet. Is this how you behave in real life? Someone has a different viewpoint to you and your only response is to resort to insults or direct violence? It seems in quite a few of your cases, if I were to kick a cat / dog, i'd be kicking the more intelligent party...

Dude, If I saw anyone kicking a cat or dog, there would be afters - nowt special for you! You can have all the viewpoints you like, I'm not bothered - but as soon as those viewpoints step over into the sort of actions you advocate, fists would fly. And yes, this is how I behave in real life.

As opposed to you threatening violence against an animal that knows no better because you dont have the stones to talk to the owner.

I've tried to resist the temptation to swear up until now but its getting tougher, you either need a sound kicking yourself, mental health assistance or pity I cant decide which.

I love using force against animals, then I pick em up, pluck em(or skin), gut em and eat em, after a period in the oven normally. Love to listen to all the brave animal loving folks on here who are never cruel to animals while buying there plastic wrappped meat down the supermarket. Bet they don't slap the bloke around that's just put a bolt into the head of their Sunday roast just before the creature does the hanging electrode dance.
Ever fancied watching the mass slaughter of chickens? now that pure cruelty in action. This is just an observation of the double standards in our society on all sorts of levels that everyone is guilty to a lesser or great degree.
Cats are mass wild life killers and no amount of "my fluffy on does sweet smelling messages in my garden" type rubbish can hide that. However when you consider how expert we are at killing each other and animals then protesting or defending a cat seems like the wrong target.

I for one am not defending any cat. I'm more concerned about twonks who apply unreasonable violence to an animal to try and "teach it a lesson". Animals don't have that sort of rational thought process and humans should know better. Even as a veggie I'm prepared to acknowledge the killing of animals for farm and food purposes is easier to justify and a very different scenario - if a wooly leftie veggie like me can see that, I really can't see why a red blooded type like yourself can't. I agree though that the plastic wrapped chicken generation has rather lost its connection with the world around it.

Never been to a chicken abbatoir but have been to a sheep/cow/pig one, I dont think its cruel certainly much less cruel than kicking an animal. Whatever a cat may do the fault lies with the owner, if you havent got the stones to take it up with them then you just need to get over it.

When my cat has misbehaved I have indeed taken it up with him, generally resulting in a drop kick through my front door. He does actually take this quite well, and generally follows up with a very good snivelling cur impersonation for a day or two after. However I totally refute the learning ability suggestion, as the snivelling cur thing only lasts for a day or two, and then he'll sneak back in and crap in my mrs slipper again! Not a problem from my perspective, but nicking my bacon is simply not acceptable, and then its the 79th minute of the 2003 Rugby World Cup all over again. And thus the cycle repeats.

And would do the same again in a heartbeat if they were doing what these characters were doing at the time... Young = 18-19yrs. Older(in this case)=late 30s early 40s. Not sure if you fall into either of those categories 😉

Never been a fan of the stand back, tut tutting, "someone should do something about all this", method of keeping our society's moral compass straight and true.

The point of raising these other incidents was not to big myself up (or down depending on your point of view) but rather a crude way of attempting to indicate in whose company I would associate people who make the choice to attack animals.

Of course the other fallacies are that cat's cover up their mess and only on an unkempt lawn...
Our (or more correctly my wifes) two like to paw the ground (or carpet on a bad day) in the vague direction of where they left their eggs, or in the case of one scrambled eggs, the state of the lawn has little to do with it.

Sadly my snakes aren't big enough to eat the ****ers...

Convert - Totally with on "I agree though that the plastic wrapped chicken generation has rather lost its connection with the world around it". That's comming from a rightist (oldage does it) hunting and fishing type who was formerly a veggy leftist.

Am loving this thread, funny cats really divide people in a way that dogs don't (possibly? could be wrong on this). Though bad for the cat I still think it's very funny that a snake got a cat. It's sort of satisfying when the hunter gets hunted.

Must be off as a lawn cutting session calls, also a visit to the rats nest in me compost with a couple of Lakelands terriors, sport of kings.

Getting a bit off topic here, but here goes.

Lad with the cat - had cornered said tabby which by this time was prostrate at feet and (showing a surprising modicum of education) was using the gladiator style thumb up/down to his alchopop swigging mates as to what he should do with it. That was a red mist job, and didn't really do any good as on taking cat to the vets it was put down due to injuries. Not nice all around really.

Of the others, the police were very much on my side (they were called just after I pulled him off the poor girl) with the road rage chap and concluded any injuries he suffered were justified in defence of myself and the young girl (I was in road bike shoes on commute home- have you tried running away in road shoes!) . He turned out to be not a very nice bloke with previous and spent some time inside for his assault on this girl. Local paper called me a hero, but obviously the STW jury sees me as a twonk, which is fair enough - we can all have opinions.

Whilst I certainly would not advocate vigilantism if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time when these things happen sometimes you have to stand up for those that can't stand up for themselves. Although I'm sure there are those that would rather choose to ignore it, walk on by and kick the cat instead 😉

Well, thought this site looked ok, good community and active....guess not. What a bunch of middle england type suburban dwelling deviant tossers. There are the odd exceptions, and i salute you for bothering with these neanderthals.
You people seem to be getting hard thinking about killing cats.....it must have been difficult at times getting love from your mother when shes your sister as well huh?

Convert, you did the right thing on both occasions and im glad someone in the uk still has a moral compass not defined by political correctness and has the balls to do something about it when they see the acts you have described. The rest of this lot would have stood about saying 'oh how terrible, but mustnt become involved in case i infringe the cretins rights' or more likely they would have done absolutely nothing.

Well, first and last post here. enjoy discussing how great killing cats is. Freaks.

I can smell the testosterone, or is it the cat shit?

I am a cat owner who actually hated cates until we decided we wanted a pet but couldnt give the time we needed to look after a dog. So we got a cat who has been a faithfull friend, a palypal to two children (Putting up with them pulling clumps of fur out) and has never EVER killed a bird in its life. We have had her for 13yrs and i can honestly say she has been a brilliant member of our family. Those people who slate cats are very blinkered in the same way as some people are blinkered to dog owners.

Anyhow, enough of the one upmanship in threatening behaviour. Given the OP, can anyone really say that they would have attacked the snake if it were their moggy screaming out loud? I know i would have crapped myself and let it get on with it tbh. No way am i taking on a bloody python. If you were man enough, how the hell would you approach pulling moggy back out or even attempting to kill the python? Big spade or a kitchen knife?

So many questions

Good question you cat lover you. Given it 2 seconds thought and this is what I'd do in the situation. Would not have time to go get the shot gun out the cabinet, chain saw would have to be fueled, though if quick could be the tool for the job. Spade could be the right tool as long as you could get a full swing but kitchen knife? Nooooooo! Way to close for me. Alternatively I'd be so shocked that I'd stand there transfixed and considering my manhood.
Glad that your cats brilliant, the little black bl..der that's been at the birds in the field at my place aint so good, wish I could train it to have a go at the rats.

Too late

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Its an internet forum : General idea is to share info and get info on the core subject matter, (in this case MTB), and find ways to liven up an otherwise dull and boring day at the "office". Throwing out a hook and reeling in a big old trout is in fact one of those things that brighten up the day......

....... do you honestly believe that any of these closet creature killers really would do what they are claiming ? I bet you think they are real people too?? Its virtual willy waggling.... nothing more

I like cats...I grew up with 2 cats and a dog.

One of the cats was essentially my cat...followed me to school, always sat on my lap etc.

She killed tons of stuff...birds, mice, rats, even rabbits. She didn't bother to eat them...just usually left them slightly chewed up on the end of my bed for me to finish off.

A dog isn't much of a deterrent to cats if you want to prevent cats in your garden. Cats are a bit cleverer than dogs and will just wait for it to leave before it poos in your rose garden, which it will do if you don't want it to. Don't ask my why, they just will. If the dog confronts it on the ground, most domestic dogs will end up with a scratched nose (or worse) before the cats runs off unscathed.

I can understand the frustration of those keen on wildlife in their gardens...I'm a keen wildlife photographer and when I have a garden I'd like to encourage birds etc. I can't have pets anymore as my wife has allergies but I'll look for ways to discourage neighbours cats in our garden. If I had a cat I think I'd attach a bell.

When our cats got old (my one lived to 23!) my Mum had to discourage neighbours cats from claiming the garden as their territory as they'd fight our old cats (when she was a younger cat she ruled the neighbourhood with an iron claw so used to win most encounters but she was getting old and rusty!). The method she found most effective was a big water pistol.

I don't have much to add about the python story really...but I guess it's survival of the fittest.

I read a story once about a woman who used to let her daughter sleep next to their pet python...after a while when the snake got bigger the mother kept on finding the python perfectly straight lying next to the daughter. It kept on happening, and the mother got worried that there was something wrong with the snake.

She took it to the vet and explained what the problem was and the vet confiscated the snake. Apparently the snake was lying next to the daughter to measure her up for it's next meal.

That story is probably bollocks though.

Actually, about my comment about dog vs cats...

Dogs sometimes get blinded by cats...surely if the snake eating a cat is a bad thing, shouldn't owners of dog blinding cats be reprimanded too.

The ordeal prompted Mr Wadey, 44, to set up a campaign appealing for the Dangerous Wild Animals Act to include constrictor snakes.

So does that also include corn snakes? Watching my corn snake he constricts its food to hold it while he eats it. Not sure that our cat could be eaten by the snake.
