Just makes me feel sick reading it, essentially a "look at me" phrase

Apparently the swear filter costs money to upgrade. It's a bit spendy.

Depends on the context I guess, heating the house is a bit 'spendy'.

I've got a brand new spendy colour way for the cockpit of one of my steeds in my quiver. Gonna roost some gnarly berms later.

Thank you for running that one up the flagpole. Let’s throw it against the wall and see if is sticks - might add value going forwards.

On second thoughts that sounds a bit spendy so let’s not

Did I post yet to tell you about my new rig?
It fits quite nicely into my quiver, although I’m missing an XC missile and a DH sled would help round things out .

I’ve been triggered

Now I’m feeling a little horse, sorry, hoarse.
Actually, horses are a bit too spendy, so I’m out.

What about the bloke who paid half a million to a bloke in Turkey for a first edition of 'Peter Pan', even though it had been folded in half and had a sticker of a disgraced French Footballer on the cover?

@joshvegas "it's a bit too expensive for you normal types but I've got it because I earn loads working in IT in my summer house"?

Trouble is there are a lot more spendy bikes around, especially with more e-bikes and less acoustic bikes.

Surely people who can actually afford something don't call it spendy? I've only seen it used for people saying somethings too spendy for them.

Any way, I was gonna schralp some brown pow on my acoustic downcountry steed later but as fuels a bit spendy at the moment I might swap it out for a local gravel blast instead. Will search up some routes on t'interwebz.

@convert

I’m about to pull the trigger on a spendy new gnarpoon weapon to add to my quiver……

Surely?

But I'm with the OP, we can remove spendy and just autoreplace it with $$.

What else to describe my artisan steel bike with specially designed flex than spendy and bendy 🙂

That'd be a spendy, bendy, Mendy Wendy, effendi.

Tough crowd....

Interesting point
I'd tend to disagree though. I reckon expensive is the word used by people when they say something was too much to buy.

I'm with the OP that when people think stuff is costly but they still buy it then " spendy" is the word of choice.

Spendy doesn't really wind me up that much. On the other hand, the recent trend on here to use 'spec' to mean either 'recommend' (as in "spec me a fork") or 'built with' (as in "I specced my new gnarpoon with 150mm 36s') is really pissing me off. Please just stop it.

'Spec' is short for 'Specify' / 'Specification' - use it all the time at work.

Specification’ – use it all the time at work.

I'm well aware of that. It's still an inappropriate usage. A bike manufacturer might choose a specification for each model on their range. It's not the same as you going to your LBS or CRC and buying a component to stick on the frame you've got lying around.

How about thinking of it as shorthand for "recommend with specificity" or is that inappropriate too?

What causes mild annoyance for me are websites that pretend to have notifications for you as if you have an account with them and some sort of interaction has occurred. Like that dictionary website that usually comes top in the search results when I want to check the meaning of words before using them. Can't remember it's name!

Maybe there should be a mild annoyance of the day thread?

“spec me a fork”

Recommend me a fork = suggest a make and model.

Spec me a fork = talk to me about travel length, air vs spring...

The use of it's when it should be its would be my suggestion for that thread.

“spec me a fork”

Three tines or four? Cutleryists assemble. Where are my forking specs?

I don't like "rule 1" (as used on here to mean" don't be a dick", there are numerous other "rule 1"s), for the underlying assumption there's an understanding amongst good chaps as to what constitutes being a dick. Count me out of that one, ta.

One of my managers at work has recently started using the word 'sick'. That's got to be the final nail in that particular coffin

Same here, it's ridiculous.

Why can't they just call in unwell?

'Stoked'. Especially when said by a middle class MTBer from the home counties.

All of the above annoy me. Worse though are 'curated' and 'artisan'. They can just get in the sea.

Someone on STW recently shared their issue with that phrase also.
