The world would be a better place with the more liberal use of some furious fists, I'm not talking beating someone to a pulp, just the odd slap. You witness the pent up frustration and anger people carry and the fear they won't own up to reading this forum on a daily basis. The fear, which saddens me the most, is usually wrapped up in the passive aggressive use of over moralising. If folk let off some good honest steam and chanced their arm a bit, I'm sure the overall balance of things would be better.

I really don't understand all these "talk to him" suggestions. This guy is a complete stranger to the OP, it's not the OP's responsibility to talk to him. If the geezer needs to talk to someone other than his friends and family, then there are professional people who can provide this service.

IMO the OP has two choices, either forget it, or report it. Decking the geezer or offering him a hug are not options imo.

I'm sensing this is exactly what happened - bloke came into the neighbourhood he didn't recognise driving too fast/erratically and he gave him a slap in a neighbourhoodwatch kind of way shortly followed by some middle class angst at the potential consequences and a swift apology.

My vote is for the op driving more poorly than his description indicates as the most logical reason for that sort of reaction.

Not shallow at all yunki, I have thought very deeply about it and have come to the conclusion that I would rather live in a society where the rule of law was upheld and as a general rule people mind their own business.

There's still plenty of room for compassion in a society which recognises those two rather basic requirements.

Go over and deck him. Simple.

Take photos of the injuries. Make a statement to Police but say you don't want to press charges. Whatever you do, keep a record of the incident so that if he does it again to someone else you can bring up your own incident. Make it clear to him that that's what you have done.

(FWIW I live in a street that's blighted by idiots speeding through to beat traffic lights on the main road so I can understand why he lost it)

I've had a few 'bad days' but have never felt the need to punch randomers because of it. If its a red mist thing and next time he's holding a hammer and just has a quick bludgeon, shit happens eh, shrug it off. Be a man, go round with a sledgehammer and do the manly thing. The police approve of premeditated vigilante justice 🙄

The only complicating factor here is his and your relationship with your mate, I'd ask him. Either report, or go round and talk to the bloke instead.

Phone the police, let them deal with it its their job.

Go round there, drag him out of the house, lie him on the ground and put a spade in his mouth. Call his wife and kids out of the house and make them line up and watch while you stamp on the spade and the flick the top of his head up in the air before you volley it into the garden leaving a quivering body on the ground with just a lower jaw.

Or pop round and talk to him and see if he has any problems you can help with.

I'd definitely report him but not press charges. I've had similar and the intervention in my case did make me change my ways. I should stress no violence was involved, I'm not a moron.

You got punched in the face, it clearly wasn't even a very good punch being as the guy then apologised and you drove off so I would just leave it at that- surely your pride can't be that hurt it's not like you had a stand-up fight and lost, or anything. If someone punched me in the face and I just looked at them and they apologised I would expect them to be the ones who should be feeing embarrassed.

Going round to 'see' the guy even if it just to talk to him will only makes things worse.
