I love an armchair, always have. I favour the early turn of the century stuff.

My current steed is coming up for reshuffle and I'm minded to try an Eames, not genuine you understand I'm not made of money, but a faithful repro might give me a similar experience.

Just wanted to ask if anyone had used one and if they live up to the hype or perhaps a look elsewhere is advised.

Life's too short for shyte seats.

I've got a big leather recliner that means I often fall asleep before the end of a film. As with many things try before you buy. In the case of mine Madame Edukator dragged me into an Italian designer furniture place and while she was browsing I looked around for somewhere to sit and wait - I bought the one I sat down in. 🙂 Only problem is that Madame finds it comfy too and often beats me to it.

I fancied an Eames (or copy) but they seem to take up a lot of space with the footstool. I ended up with a G-Plan Lundt chair and footstool, which is slightly more compact but supremely comfortable, particularly when reclined. Mine’s leather but they also come in fabric if that’s your thing.

Had a reasonable quality Eames copy and yes, they're comfortable.  There are more comfortable lounge chairs, but there is something about the Eames that just looks right.

I'd buy another and this place would be where I'd buy from https://www.iconicinteriors.com/  if buying again.  The copies are really good value for what you get.

When you say 'Eames' chair, I take it you mean the 670(lounge chair), and 671(ottoman)

I've always had a fondness for that one,and was tempted to make one for my final year project(not happened due to i would have had to make the cast alloy base too from scratch and that put the brakes on it.) but was pointed out to me that it is rather small, and not the best fit for everybody.

-------------------------

In the Blood/Death/Robots series, one of the animators has a re-imagined Eames 670

I took a screenshot(or several) of it because I liked that idea, and it made the chair look a lot more comfortable and more supportive.

It looks like you'd sit more upright than slouched

Personally I'd slum it and go second hand on one of those (670), £600 change out of £5K what's not to like. While I'm here in this fantasy world, I perhaps should sell my e-bike first though.

I absolutely wanted that eams chair.

It absolutely does not fit me at 6"4.

So whatever you buy don't buy sight unseen.

We have an Eames, bought for a 'significant' birthday. Its great. Looks fantastic, very comfortable; doesn't look quite as good after Mrs YP spilt a bottle of nail varnish on it!

As above when combined with a footstool then it's a big piece of furniture. Looks great in magazines, huge lofts with white walls and glass. looks good on a big shop floor. It may however be too big for some UK houses. We had to ditch a living room chair to make room.

Wouldn't regret getting it but check what space you have.

I only have one chair, cheap fake leather electric rise/recliner in my living room but I can get away with that as I live alone, perhaps give everyone in your house their own floor cushion and bask/relax in the ownership of an eames. 😄 Must admit it’s a chair I’ve always liked the look of but I’ve never seen one never mind sat in one.

I did have a Barcelona 2 person sofa that I bought quite cheap 2nd hand years ago from a house clearance here in my town as I liked how it looked but it wasn’t comfortable to sit on, my dog liked it though. When I went to sell it I gave it a good clean as it was covered in dog hair/mud and found a “KnollStudio” signature on the leg and on label underneath so it was an original 😳

My Barcelona chair looks fab but is so uncomfortable, no lower back support at all.  I d have an eames, plenty of decent copies about on marketplace.

This. I love great furniture design, but I hate the Eames chair and footstool my other half has in a corner of the kitchen.

Massive thing, footstool is constantly in the way and it's not overly comfortable to make up for it all.

Maybe if you live in some palatial open plan glass house. Terraced house? nah.

I'm in a terraced house. I may need to re-think this.

The most pressing consideration for any chair  of course - is 'would Dieter Rams point at it?'

I have an Eames copy. As said already it:

 - looks great

 - takes up a lot of room

It's quite comfy, and it I use it to read, play video games, watch tv. For me it has one serious lack: there is no support for your head, so it's not much good for slouch mode. If I'm sitting upright-ish it's all good.

I like it, but I'd swap it for Joey's La-Z-Boy E-Cliner 3000 - the chair that is making all other lounge systems obsolete.
