You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Off to Keswick this weekend and after some suggestions for decent places for evening meals.
Not looking for anything particularly fancy, more relaxed with good food and drink.
Cheers!
Upstairs in the Old Keswickian fish and chip shop at the top of the high street. Not flash but good fish, chips, tea (beer pie and pudding available too).

Cow Pie at the George.
The End.
Merienda.
Merienda is excellent.
Dog and Gun is a nice pub with decent food, had Singletrack Beer on the other week. They do a good Beef and Ale pie.

NB Worth trying to book, its really busy up there right now and very hard to get tables at the WE.
Rascal has the only answer ....
Just take rennine for the hours after 🙂
Thanks all.
Just booked The George for Sunday evening. Was already fully booked on Saturday. Been just over 8 years since I was last there eating cow pie!
Will check out the other suggestions. Any nice Indian, Chinese or Thai options you know of?
Lakeland spice or sultan are the only 2 curry options, both can be good but neither outstanding. Chinese is takeout only still I think- golden hills.
There's a Thai restaurant there, can't remember what it's called.
The Round for fancy burgers, or FellPack?
Managed to book at table at Merienda for Saturday so all sorted.
Those burgers do look good though! Will have to try to squeeze one in.
Cheers.
Rascal has the correct answer.
You need to work up an appetite for the legendary cow pie> I'll be there next weekend 😀
Heading to Keswick on the 15th I shall be giving the George a try as a mate of mine recommends it.
Tapas was good at Bar es and its been a while since i've been in but magnolia was pretty good and had lots of Belgian beer.
Dog and Gun was a great pub with oodles of character until a pubco brought it and ripped the soul out of the palace
FTFY Footflaps. It was an 'orrible, smoked filled place before the smoking ban; your waterproof would stink for the rest of the week! Smoke free it was a brilliant place to spend an hour or several after coming of the hill, alas it's been 'improved' and I won't step foot in there again. Shame, Keswick beers are great.
EDIT: And the goulash was fantastic, not sure if they still do it?
I'm up keswick this weekend from friday. What riding are you doing Op?
Fellpack on Lake Road is good, but good luck getting a table, better news is they also do takeaway. Same people also run The Round on Main Street who do posh burgers, again with takeaway option.
Thyme in Keswick is good if you want more restaurant than pub - I was there with my family in August and we all really enjoyed it.
For Thai in The Lakes Doi Intanon in Ambleside is absolutely and consistently excellent. The other Thai down the hill in Ambleside is a bit rubbish.
For the sake of completeness as all the other good places have been mentioned the Square Orange makes fanatic pizza and has a great atmosphere. Be prepared to share a table though.
EDIT: And the goulash was fantastic, not sure if they still do it?
They do indeed. It's still very good. It's a Keswick institution. The Dog and Gun isn't a bad boozer at all.
Another vote for the Square Orange doing absolutely top notch pizza and tapas, but you've got to be lucky to get in. And that was pre-covid restrictions. Its tiny.

It's a Greene King pub now, but hasn't changed IMO as a result, same staff, menu is the same. We always eat there when we're in Keswick.
Although having said that CV-19 has changed it. Being part of a large co they've taken CV-19 seriously and implemented proper measures - we were in one pub in Keswick which was happily serving a group of 9 (post max 6 rule) and had absolutely zero CV-19 awareness - they didn't give a toss about it.
Was in the Square Orange yesterday, was easy enough to book a table online so just check their website out. Another recommendation for The Round too.
Could do with staying longer looking at all those options.
Jekkyl, we're only riding on Sunday. Hired some ebikes in Grizedale so got a bit of a drive from Keswick. Walking up a couple of mountains with the rest of our time.
@footflaps - which one? We're up there next week and would like to avoid it.
I'd rather spend my £s somewhere they care about their staff and customers
The Pheasant Inn is excellent too but is outside the town centre.
Had some good pints at the Fox Tap last week
