That’s an absolute bargain! Never seen them that cheap

edit: is it the hat cheap because it’s out of stock, and then when back in stock the price goes up? It’s a v5 too, so I assume new stock will be v6 and more expensive

These were US stock apparently, hence they shipped with a plug convertor.

No idea what the price will be when they come in again.
Worth keeping am eye on.👍

I just bought one of these.

https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/jet-black/volt-ems-smart-cycle-trainer-702834#colcode=70283403

£229 delivered. It’s what the zwift trainer is based on.

^^ Your first turbo @scruff9252 ?

If so, don't forget all the other odds and sods.😁

Also just bought one of those volts, thanks - the recent crap weather made me realise how much I'm not looking forward to riding this winter! Other than a mat what are the other odds and sods that are needed?

Ebennett: I don't use a mat, but I have mine in the conservatory/utility so it's on lino. You will need a fan, not a desk fan but something that can really move some air. I'm fine with heat outside, but am a sweaty mess even in the middle of winter on the turbo trainer, even when it's been below freezing with the doors open to let the cold air in.

Ta, it's going to be in the shed so I'll see how it goes - no power supply out there so would have to run the extension cable out.

I was about to buy the zwift trainer and was reading DC rainmakers take on it. So I searched for the volt and there it was. £699 rrp isnt realistic anymore but its half what it is everywhere else.

The kickr seems to be back in stock now at CRC. Thanks OP - been wanting to upgrade my v1 for a few years now so I can use the front wheel riser thingy.

EDIT: out of stock again. Hoping I got a cancellation and not a phantom...

I’ve considered upgrading my basic dumb trainer and that volt looks tempting.
My bike is 10speed- anyone know if the 11 speed cassette can be swapped out on it?

^^ Id just get another 10 speed cassette for the trainer mate. I've got a 2x10 on my Kickr Core.

Any reason you want 11spd? (I'm assuming 10spd cassette fits the Volt, I can't see why not!)

Edit: Sorry, i see, it comes with the 11 spd. A 10 should fit, don't you need a spacer for a 10... It's been a while? If you do a generic one should fit if it doesn't come with one.

Ordered a Volt, never used a trainer before. Given I mostly want to keep my fitness up over the winter & don't have any interest in group rides or racing, is there any reason I should look at Zwift etc instead of watching TV?

I've been on and off Zwift and likewise never really got into the 'social' aspect of it so just ended up doing some structured work-outs on Garmin Connect whilst watching TV.  Helped pass the time and enjoyed it more plus saved me a few pounds per month

As you can see from danny's reoly, this is very subjective. For me Zwift was the only reason i used the trainer. Not so much the social side as such... But riding (even just free riding through the beautiful scenery, not even racing) still makes you push yourself. Not letting *that guy* that overtook you on the climb pull away... Or in a race in cat D (Im lowly cat D!😂), still busting a lung to stop *that guy* claiming 34th place as it's *yours*!😁

If you have a competitive bone in your body, Zwift might be for you. Hell, Theres a still a 7 day trial for free.👍 Nothing to lose. Dont forget set the altitude goal (can't relent it's proper name) as your goal choice... As that's the way to eventually get the coveted Tron bike.👍👍

If someone wants to sample sitting indoors on a turbo and quickly realise how mind numbing it is, I've got a "dumb" turbo I bought during lockdown from PX, Schwalbe 700c turbo tyre and inner tube which I'll give away for free just to get the thing out my garage. Collection from York.

Advice please, what’s the verdict on needing a front wheel riser with that direct mount Volt? I’ve succumbed as well and upgraded…

thanks!

upgrade my v1 for a few years now so I can use the front wheel riser thingy.

yep I’d done the same so I could use the climb a fair few years ago, it’s very nice.

I think that’s the issue with dumb turbos, the smart ones and zwift ‘can’ be fun but at a price.

I don’t think you can beat it for over the winter months, well other than moving to Spain 🙂

My jetblack from evans turned up earlier. Not unpacked it yet as haven’t rearranged the space for it yet.

I've had a kickr since lock down. I tried zwift quite a bit, it was ok with my mates but organising the rides was a pain. I recently got into the turbo again tho as I had to get fit for a bike holiday and had had another kid so time was short. I used trainerroad this time - much preferred it to zwift. Just jump on and it tells you what you should be doing. I have a telly hooked up to a pc for the turbo so have a you tube playlist on one side of the screen and trainer road on the other. I actually semi look forward to it now, as I means I can watch all the boring you tube videos I enjoy but my wife doesn't!

Two amazing PSAs!  I stuck the wahoo in the basket but was sold out again by the time I stopped faffing. Glad I did as that jet black is an even better deal. It can't match the wahoo for ultimate power and gradient, but 16% is plenty for me, especially if the zwift setting is 100%!

I've got a v5 kickr sat in my shed now as I bought a smart bike, the faff of taking my wheel off and on again was getting frustrating. I'll sell it in the next pandemic/zombie apocalypse.

I think it comes with one anyway. You'll likely need it as the bike can feel a little "head down" otherwise but if you prefer it that way there's nothing wrong with that. Stuck it and see basically.

That said, i prefer the front wheel held in place a bit otherwise my wimpy core and body muscles pull the handlebars all over the show as I attempt a pitiful sprint.😁
