As title.
Recertified WD My Cloud 2tb £49.99 direct from Western Digital.
Not on same level as synology but ideal for the NAS curious.
I’ve had one for two years and it’s been excellent.
No idea how many they have left but will presume limited stock.

Thanks man, grabbed the 4TB version for £75!
Do they still use Twonky as the media server? If so what version? I bought one a couple of years ago and it wouldn't work with our Samsung TV. I had to pay for an upgrade to Twonky to get it to work. The upgrade is fine so long as you are happy working at the command prompt and telnetting into the NAS to perform the upgrade.
Blimey, it's £50 for a 1TB hdd on Amazon. How do they do a 2GB NAS for less?!
Nice one just ordered one

reconditioned. I think I might give one a go although wouldnt trust it completely.
"wouldnt trust it completely" - exactly how you should treat any storage solution.
The 4Tb for £75 is a crazy good deal. Tempted, just because.
exactly how you should treat any storage solution.
true and that 4tb is the one I am tempted by.

I’m not sure but I’ve never had a problem streaming to an LG or Panasonic tv.
Also streams my music to sonos so does everything I would want.
Hmmm... might have to get one!! Thanks
Thanks just got the 4tb one.
I'm NAS curious. What I'd like is to have this next to my HiFi and playing through the decent DAC I've got.
Don't really mind whether it needs to be controlled by laptop, but Android would be convenient.
Is this doable?
I think it's complicated because the NAS isn't doing the playing, it's phone/laptop doing the playing and it's getting the music from the NAS. So there's no route NAS to DAC to Hi-fi.
Or wot?
Been thinking about one of these, just pushed the button on a 4tb. Thanks for the tip.
I've ordered the 4TB. Bit of bargain.

What sort of DAC do you have?
If it's a USB DAC, then it's very easy to connect a laptop. With Android you need an app, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudioplayerpro&hl=en_GB
This might of changed on later Android versions?
It's a USB DAC, but my (hopeful) idea was to have the NAS next to the hifi, plugged into the DAC which is plugged into the hifi. I'd be on the sofa with the laptop, telling the NAS to play Ministry or Dam Zanes to the DAC/hifi.
Rather than the laptop plugged into the DAC via a long lead, playing music to the dac/hifi that it's got from the NAS.
It's very easy to do with a chromecast. It's just needs to be plugged into the amp and on the same network as the Nas. You can then drive it all from your phone. I don't think that plugging a Nas into your dac will do anything more than plugging a usb harddrive in.
Interesting. Am looking for some kind of NAS, ideally with redundancy methinks, and these look at a steal at those prices. However, the lack of redundancy and the somewhat quirky/unfriendly PC software might put me off.
Sample review here.
I know they're damn cheap but can someone put me straight on real world usage? Want to hit the Buy button on 4Tb. Ta
As these are single bay only, if I buy 2 can they be run together as a mirror?
That's what I figured, nick, cheers.
Was hoping for an alternative to the chromecast as it doesn't like playing a good slice of my music collection.
"As these are single bay only, if I buy 2 can they be run together as a mirror?"
I did ponder that, as it's almost certain that WD wouldn't support that or provide software to do it you would have to come up with a way of doing it yourself. Creating a virtual disk on each one and mounted them as RAID1 would work, but then they could only be used by a single machine.
Probably better off buying two and creating scripts to clone the data at set periods.
