Been trying to remember a  WW2 drama series from around 1990 and wanted to see if any here could remember it.

As far as I recall, it was about an Australian soldier and a Japanese soldier, facing each other in the jungle.

They may have been both alone, and may have developed a friendship and I think they may have also met after the war.

It would have been on a Friday night, possibly BBC2, before The Real McCoy

Noooo, it's not that. Though it does look good- I hadn't heard of that!

Now I think of it, I'm pretty sure this one would have been summer 1991.

There's one scene I remember quite vividly where the Australian threw away half tins of bully beef, which the Japanese Soldier would collect and devour, despite them crawling with maggots.

It may have been a BBC/ABC collaboration too.

Sounds ace.

It is good!  Also available with subtitles for those of us without Polish.

No to all of those. I scoured that list too. The last bullet looks close, but that was a film and this was definitely a mini-series.

The Heroes sounded close, but no cigar, alas. I'm sure I didn't imagine it, maybe I did......

The BBC sometimes turn films into mini series they did with Dad Boot.

Dad Boot?

I remember Anzacs being on when I was a kid, not bad IIRC.

Anyway, I found it, here;

It was The Cowra Breakout.

Got a lot of stuff to watch now though. I

I'm sure I remember this from being a kid, the guy had a messed up leg involved with an air crash and couldnt move?

I remember a scene where he'd used some old metal to put over his leg to protect the wound but at one point it was crawling with maggots?

The one I remember was a mini-series

Your not making it up because I remember the exact same scene , I also remember scene of an Australian machine gunner getting overrun by escaping Japanese prisoners so I reckon it must be the cowra breakout

There was an Australian series called the Sullivans I recall and there was indeed a face off between one of the characters an auzzie and a Japanese sniper in the jungle - could this be what you are thinking of

I remember that. It's 80s I think, although I thought it was a film. Passenger plane crashes in the jungle, some of them walk out and get help. The bloke has a gangrenous leg, covers it over and maggots save his life by eating the dead flesh.

Have Googled it to no avail.

I've read the synopsis and it was definitely The Cowra Breakout. It mentioned to machine gunners ending up charging the Aussies and getting shot. One ends up wounded and in the prison camp, where they end up talking.

Found the DVD on ebay, though not cheap!

Wasn't The Sullivans on at lunchtime, before Rainbow?

Gobuchul, I can recommend Private Schulz very highly, Ian Richardson is very good in that.
