Watch the birds in your garden or local park for an hour. Record all the birds you see that land.
Record the highest number of species you see at any one time, don't total them up over the hour, as you may see the same bird twice.

Its great fun for the children to get involved in this too.

You can send the result online www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch.

Bump - did anyone take part?

The birds decided to do a runner on my Saturday watch and I was lucky to see about 4 blackbirds, the rest of the little pesky creatures turned up a few hours later.

I have two Water Rails in my garden at the moment. Been there since Dec 23 2010.

The list so far SGMTB [South Gloucestershire Mountain Bike]... is 48

Was in the New Forest on the weekend and the birdfeeders outside our window attracted lots of cute tits (ahem). Shots came out pretty well considering they are through the window.

DezB - that first pic is a blackcap, not a tit. Nice pic though, and lovely birds

Yep, I spent an hour watching the shenanigans on my feeders.

Had 3 Robins doing circuits of the tree / feeders at one point. No physical contact or bloodshed between them though which might have livened up proceedings.

Blue Tits, Greenfinches, Chaffinches,Goldfinches, Blackbirds, Great Tits, Robins, Tree Sparrows and a Dunnock to round the hour off.

The Woodpeckers (there are 3 regular visitors) stayed away during that hour, same as last year, but I included them anyway.

Yes its annoying when you have a regular bird (we normally have 2 pairs of bullfinches) that decide to not put in an appearance on the special day.

DezB - that first pic is a blackcap, not a ****. Nice pic though, and lovely birds

No it's not. It's either a marsh tit or a willow tit. Most likely a marsh.

Never seen a marsh tit or a willow tit, but it looks remarkably like the blackcap that has started to visit us

Looking at these pages, I'm still inclined to go with blackcap, it doesn't seem to have the black under it's beak, nor does the black extend far down the back of the head

I agree: Marshtit. So I was right (apart from thinking it was a coaltit.) 🙂
Red listed as quite rare too.
