I thought at first it was a Brendon Fraiser remake, but no.... Tom Cruise stars in what looks like a CGI fest of Mummy Goth Armageddon.. could be good, we shall see.
Release this Summer.
could be good
No it won't be. Guaranteed.
Pretty much the only good films released these days are children's films – they are the only films where the writers have to actually write engaging storylines in order to keep the attention of children. For us grown-ups they think they can fill the void of crap writing by having big bangs and stuff.
Looks bloody awful (and I enjoy a well done action movie).
I hope it follows the current trend of being over 2 hours lon with at least half an hour of complete bilge in the middle
My money is on Tom doing his shout at 50mins in

Whaaaaaat?
It's an action film take your brain out and watch. Hopefully entertaining too.
I think it might look novel if there hadn't been ten formulaic big budget, disaster/monster films released every year for the last 20+ years.
A remake of what was a fairly average film in the first place? Yeah, should be t'riffic.
Are there a lot more remakes now than there used to be? Or is it a middle-aged, policemen are getting younger, pop music these days is rubbish, kinda thing.
Well.
Kids films these days, some..not all, have been very entertaining indeed. Some have just been aimed at kids and dire for adults.
The Scorch Trials duo so far I've enjoyed, but even in those it's a bit teenage angst, but enjoyable to watch.. there is another due for release later this year.
The original Mummy and its Return of the Mummy with Brendon in are two of my favourite films, ever. Classy, scripts a bit easy on the brain, excitement, treasure hunting and such.. but the third one was crap.
But we are in a very lucky position these days with so many varied and good films to entertain us, the onset of CGI and the ability to make films quickly means we get more viewing, more entertaining. The downside is we may become blasé and expect more..
I'll watch this one, I find the idea around it interesting and I'll be entertained.

I'm guessing but I assume these will be an attempt to launch a Universal Mosnters franchise "film universe" so Mummy, Frankenstein, Wolfman etc as opposed to a remake of the Brendan Fraser films, which were initially supposed to do the same thing iirc.
£1 says Tom will run towards the right of the pictures at least three times during the runtime. I swear he must have it written to his contract.
I'll watch it as i like the first 2, 3rd one was meh, was disappoints no Rachel Weisz.
I was going to ask at what time in the film does Tom do his "run as fast as he can in a comedy manner" bit 🙂
A friend of mine worked on this, she also worked on the night watchman.
I think I can guess which Tom she preferres though and it's not the one with wedges in his heels 😆
It will be just like any action film, disengage brain and watch the show. It's not pretending to be anything else other than 'an action movie'
He does have a rather odd running style
Quick though, apparently. Saw an interview ages ago with the director of The Firm (Sydney Pollack?) who said there was a tracking scene in that where Mr Cruise is sprinting to catch something/someone, and they had to get him to slow down cos they couldn't track quickly enough to keep up.

But there has to be an element of captivation there. Take, for example, Jurassic Park - the original was based on a book (Michael Crighton IIRC) and clearly benefitted from a strong base story.
Each sequel / remake since then has been dire.

Not quite:
Jurassic Park - Brilliant
The Lost World - Very good
The third one - dreadful
The recent one - dreadful
they couldn't track quickly enough to keep up.
He's also 6'2".
He's also 6'2".
That would explain how he can run so fast.

Jurassic World reviewed pretty well- I liked it mostly, some stupidity, some good new stuff, some nice callbacks to the original. Also had the best cinema outburst I've ever heard- when they go "what DNA did you use to create the Killersaurus Bastardus", someone in the cinema shouted out "HITLER'S", I almost died.

Already happening. Dracula Untold (which was awful, for the 40 minutes I managed to watch) had reshoots to tie it into the upcoming "Universal Monsters" universe, but they seem to be playing down the connection now. There's a Wolfman and an Invisible Man planned at least I think.

It did, which pleased me as I was worried it was going to be dreadful, because I LOVE the original. So, went to see it, expecting to like, if not love, it. It was dreadful.
Each sequel / remake since then has been dire.
Wasn't the Lost World more true to the book?
Action films have stories the fact they're often crap doesn't always matter.
Mr Cruise does some roles well (eg. I liked Live, Die, Repeat), but The Mummy without Brendon Fraiser just sounds wrong!
New Mummy film - yes
Tom Cruise- no No NO .
someone in the cinema shouted out
There is a thread of its own there.
