Hurray
Yay! Hope Laure, Juge Roban and Tintin are in it.
New season or repeat?
New Season
Which season is it up to? I’ve never seen it and can’t find old ones to stream but I’m guessing I can pick up from here!
I’ve never seen it
Going to go against the STW-anything-is-good-if-it’s-got-subtitles-world-drama-chat-bollocks, but I don’t think you’re missing much.
First few series were great, 3-5 less so. This looks like a new series 6
Oh, and Audrey Fleurot
I'm spent.
😆 DD
I enjoy gritty policiers and it was interesting to have the judiciary sub-plots, but it’s certainly not “the wire” and i agree that the earlier series were better.
Awesome!!
Oh, and Audrey Fleurot
You can fill your boots with the latest series of Witnesses where she acts in her usual average manner in a hugely exaggerated plot involving lots of impetuous French police officers jumping to impetuous conclusions, while smoking in multi-storey parking garages after roughing up a suspect, only to allow the real baddie to execute someone more or less under their noses.
Much like Spiral/Engrenages.*
*Delete as appropriate according to the level of love for sub-titled average French polis** drama.
**Or should I say "Flic" 🙂
Hmmm, enjoyed the first series..
But the latest doom & gloom Pinot generation Crime Dramas have been grim, and dull.
They’re all worn out, well trodden Mills & Boon novels with drugs.
So, well seriously, hoping Spiral turns out to have some storyline content and not rely on grey image catalogue shots of some French Bird gazing into the 9th Arr..
We will see.
Thanks for the heads up, seems an age since the last series.
Witnesses was shit. Fleurot or not.
Nah, reckon Spiral is streaks ahead of other world drama. It's action-packed but not in a silly way, and gritty too. Of course one does miss Pierre. 🙁
Thanks,would have missed that.
Witnesses was shit.
Let’s face it, as much as it horrifies us all to admit it as we’re supposed to love subtitled drama, it’s nearly all shit, including Engranages/Spiral.*
*Delete as appropriate.
No, nope - can’t fully agree with you on all of that 😆
There is some *tremendous* stuff available for us to watch. There aren’t many who didn’t enjoy 1) The Bridge; 2) The Killing; 3) Swingers; 4) Deutschland 83; 5) The Outlaws; 6) Trapped; 7) Follow the Money; 8 ) Acquitted.
And some more! I haven’t seen Spiral though, so I can’t comment 😆
There’s so much now that nearly all of it is shit - agreed on Killing and The Bridge (both of which went a bit shit) and Borgen which was nearly alll awesome. I’ve mentioned before on these threads that the quality of this stuff meant that subsequent “world drama bollocks” was allowed a lot of latitude. It’s time to admit that most of it, like most of our own stuff, is, well, a bit shit.
I do feel rather smug when telling people it’s best to watch with subtitles rather than dubbed though.
I think Spiral is good and stands up well against any other cop drama bar The Wire. First series of The Killing was brilliant, following two not too great.
Well..
I enjoyed that. I think it’s becuase Spiral was one of the first of these gritty dramas and we watched it and got into both characters and location.. so I’m glad this ones back. Doesn’t seem to have lost much of its original feel, the characters are basically the same so no new or replacements to worry about. Storyline seems to have just continued from where it left off...
I won’t stay in for it, but will record them all and Watch at leasure.
@DD - you are talking about the woman I love.
Well, one of them. In between watching Clemence Poesy in The Tunnel and the impending return of Saga Noren.
deadlydarcy certainly we no longer have the calibre of Borgen (my all time favourite) or The Killing but do feel that your criticisms are rather harsh.
Compare to recent UK offerings from BBC and ITV, eg Bancroft starring Sarah Parish (brilliant in W1A). Well, I gave up mid-way through the second episode due yet again to ridiculous, over the top, improbable plots a la stylee of Line of Duty which has now become bloody stupid with the accompanying loss of credibility.
BBC have a new two parter tonight starring the rather hot James Norton but I won't be holding my breath. Mediocrity rules with terrestrial telly.
Spiral is still well written, the actors are darn good and it works. Kinda reminds me of what Stephen Bochco did so brilliantly across the pond.
Certainly as good as ever.
Apologies, McMafia is an 8 part series. One part was enough for me. 😐
