saw that myself at tesco this morning, but im no fan of smoky, peaty whiskies, so plumped for a speyside that i hadnt seen before at £17.50, Glenfairn i think it is. thats £17.50 without being on offer, what could go wrong 😀
first google review i read when i got home was 2/10. im not expecting great things......
I have a bottle of this. It's alright, tastes like a Caol Ila.
Why is it a YouTube linky?
I just put the YouTube linky in cos I was just looking at it and wanted to share the love.
That was the Whisky that finally taught me to love Whisky 😎
Hopefully some still on shelves for the weekend, definitely worth the £25 for me.

That'll do me then. I'm a Caol Ila fan.
/takes suspicious hat off/
I shall be placing an order with herself for the shopping on Friday.
Also - who knows what cassette tapes taste like?
Most of these mystery Islay bottlings are Caol Ila. It's a big distillery that doesn't sell masses under its own label.
There seem to be more and more of them these days - Scarabus, Port Aksaig, Mac Talla, Finlaggan, Ileach etc etc.
Got a bottle of Bruichladdich Classic Laddie for 35 quid in my local Tesco the other day. Now that was great value.
Ileach is Caol Ila? Nice one, is going cheap locally.
Had a Finlaggan and also a Gordon and McPhail Caol Ila bottling, both delicious also. I know what I like it seems!
No guarantee where any of them come from and they might not always source from the same place.
There are only a handful of distilleries on Islay though and in most cases Caol Ila will be a likely candidate.
Unlikely to be Lagavulin for example as they're apparently struggling to keep up supply of their official bottlings at present.
Smokehead is someone else, we were supposed to do a tasting last year and still waiting for it to come back.
It's cheap in Morrisons as well right now.

That’s a win for me, then. Hopefully some left in town on Saturday.
I wish I could give as much a **** when I drink a dram as the fella in the review in the op. That's a lot of words when - 'that's a good drop' would suffice.
On Amazon at £25 or 10% to 15% off that with subscribe and save if your in to it.
Had a bottle. Not great but OK if you get it cheap enough.

As Port Askaig is around a mile from Caol Isla and Loch Finlaggan not much further away, looks like a good bet it is Caol Ila in many of these bottlings. May try the Finlaggan cask strength at £39 on Amazon.
Bowmore 12 still £26 on Amazon last time I looked.
Not saying it's better or worse than this stuff, but it's very nice - especially at that price.
I had a bottle of this given to me. Tasted like bonfire water it was minging.

Smokey whisky in tastes smokey shocker! 😉

Smokey whisky in tastes smokey shocker!
Yeah but that is next level smokey I don't mind the likes of Laphroaig but that Smokehead was just revolting.

Fair enough, I've always found Laphraoig to be the smokiest (or maybe tar-iest) whisky in my limited collection.
En-route to Tesco in St Andrews I was way-laid at the Balgrove Larder and ended up with a bottle of Big Peat - Heroes Edition instead 😎
