Whoop, whoop,
Chemmy and Ed present tonight's new series.
18:15, BBC 2
I used to love it as a kid, but I hear it's gone downhill fast.
I always thought that Alan Partridge should do a couple of episodes in the ultimate 4th wall break - can you imagine the outfits, the commentary, the interviews... 😀
I need a lesson to have even the beginnings of a clue on the trick. I can work out the spins are in degrees but the rest is a mystery. I’m not sure how you can tell if the snowboarders are dropping in backwards.
I watched it and sort of enjoyed it, but all I really want from Ski Sunday is coverage of the men's & women's downhill series.
They seem to dial that back every year (think they showed one race last series), at the expense of lots of other disciplines. Which is fine and they do have fans, but it's like if cycling coverage spent 80% of the time focussing on trials and artistic cycling instead of DH and the TdF.
I’m not sure how you can tell if the snowboarders are dropping in backwards
They'll know what foot they normally ride forwards and will then know if they're dropping in backwards (switch)
I can work out the spins are in degrees but the rest is a mystery
Each place they grab the board effectively has a name and sometimes influences the name of the trick i.e a Method, an Indy
The direction of the spin has a name: frontside or backside (which changes depending on riding switch or not)
and then the flip or rotation they do has a name
So for example a Switch Backside 720 rodeo
Switch = the rider is riding backwards
Backside = The direction of the spin was on their heelside
720 = degrees of rotation
Rodeo = a backflip with an inverted rotation of at least 540 degrees
I used to love it as a kid, but I hear it’s gone downhill fast.
Agreed it's definitely on a slippery slope.
I met Ed Leigh in the lift pass queue a couple of years ago. He was so far up himself, he needed a torch. Dint see him getting a luvvie gong at the Golden Globes yesterday dahling...
If you believe the BBC , the ski calendar is about 6 weeks long , meantime Eurosport have been covering pretty much every speed and tech event in the FIS calendar.
SS has gone the country file , woke , dumbed down , watered down route.
... but all I really want from Ski Sunday is coverage of the men’s & women’s downhill series.
Me too, with a smattering of slalom, GS and Super-G. So I don't bother watching anymore.

What the actual **** is "woke skiing"? Do they have women AND black people competing now? I hope you're writing to your MP.
What the actual **** is “woke skiing”?
I think he was making a very sophisticated joke - pretending to be an easily offended snowflake in a thread about skiing. In which case, top marks!
Anyway, I just came to post this -

Hahahaha ski Sunday has gone woke. Can someone post that pic of the ladybird book of woke please?
Too many disciplines and not enough shows to cover them all. Must be hard to pick what to cover.
I'd love it to be longer and there be more of them - I also miss the days of watching the full on DH but I'd definitely like cover of the big air stuff as it's mighty impressive. At the end of the day it's niche programme that a lot of people are going to bitch about because it's elitist. I can see why the Beeb don't go crazy with it.
They did have a feature a couple of years back about a group from inner city Laanden. Lewisham or Tower Hamlets or some such. It was about depwived people getting to express themselves through snowsports and discover their inner most snowman (or women) despite living in da hood. It broke my wokeometer as it had both black people and women skiing in fact they were efficiently combined into one group of black women <gasp>
Thing is, we've currently got a very good slalom skier in Dave Ryding, and arguably the best female freestyle snowboarder in the world in Mia Brookes, and she is winning lots of stuff. So it's no surprise to see them devoting more coverage to that. Agreed that it's a shame that we don't see as many big downhills....and yeah, I just wish that there were more shows.
