One of my favourite athletes will be talking for the first time about his cancer diagnosis. His future plans and why he's encouraging men to test for cancer of the prostate.

I wonder if he'll talk about getting over the state of your bumhole...? Seriously! when I first got tested it was embarrassing enough having a bloke probing down there, but now I've got piles, I ain't getting that out for anyone!
Or, we could drop the "finger up your arse" hilarity and encourage men to be vigilant for any symptoms and consider a PSA test.

In all seriousness, get tested. I've had to have a prostrate test before, I might have found it mildly embarrassing at the time but it was obviously just routine for the staff and as such, I'd have no issuse going back again despite what carnage I may have inflicted in my self over the years.
Just remember to make sure you are clean all over before you go, if you DO have to have such a test. In fact, it may just be safest to say make sure you are clean all over at all times, just in case. I do despair at the number of posts on Fesshole (see X or Bluesky) which reveal the number of men who do not know how to use sanitary facilities
Thankfully (or not, I suppose, depending on what you enjoy), the PSA test normally used to check is a blood test.

I also find it irritating when discussions about prostate cancer revert back to the finger up the bum thing. How many men die each year because of reluctance in getting tested as this is the over riding narrative. Besides, have you seen what is actually involved in a smear test? Women have a much worse deal than blokes do.

As mentioned above, we women have smear tests, which are not painful, but can be a little uncomfortable, we also have mammogram screening from the age of 50, this too is quite uncomfortable and verging on painful for some. However these are free and so important. Imo these tests are no worse than time at the dentist. If you are offered something please take the opportunity. It could save your life.
@stanley - Sir Chris is proposing a 'Tour de four', a bike ride next year for others with stage 4 prostate cancer, to get them into the saddle. This would be perfect for you.
Edit - The Tour de Four charity ride is for anyone with stage 4 cancer (not just prostate). Riding from the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow to Edinburgh.

Thanks. Yeah, my mum just told me about that too. I'm looking forward to watching the program later and will certainly get involved with Sir Chris. I've already done some charity stuff and awareness raising... It's made me feel good and I'm keen to do more.
^^^ @stanley I'm Glasgow based and would be honoured to be involved in it with you. I may not meet the qualification criteria, being a prostate cancer survivor after surgery 10 yrs ago next month, but I guess I may be allowed !
I went to uni with sir chris. Didn't know him but my mate did. He use use to date Chris's ex. My mate was a 140lb weakling of a lad, oh how we laughed when reminding him that his other half use to be on the receiving end of the man mountain of an Olympic champ that was chris hoy
Hopefully he leaves a legacy far beyond his cycling achievements. The man is an absolute legend and one of the good guys in life.
I'm going to have to be brave watching it as I'm 2 years older now than my dad when he was in remission from prostate cancer, he died 4 years later from bone cancer @ 61.
Have met Chris Hoy a few times and in a sad twist of fate he really engaged with my late wife who was by then in a wheelchair due to MS!
Watching it on delay, and he's even more inspiring. Carpe Diem indeed!

I vaguely remember he had a cancer diagnosis but didn't read much more until recently when he discussed his families other devastating health issues.
Horrendous any person/family should have such a double whammy to deal with.
That was a tough watch, I actually shed a tear.
An incredible human being IMO.

Why do the worst things seem to happen to the nicest people?
Got alot of dust in my eyes while watching that.
Similar prognosis to my skiing buddy, Rib pain , scan , multiple marstissis sites , chemo and all kinds of treatment but ultimately incurable.
