All hail the Danebury Metal Detecting Club 🙂
Great stuff.
Currently revising with Season 1 on the iPlayer.
Harry
It was a nice bit in that Observer article ,about him handing over his first finds to the farmer.
Can't wait for more Simon and Garfunkel face offs 🙂
Great program - bought my daughter A detector after watching it. 2 hours on a beach we found one rusty nail.
Thanks for posting up. Loved series 1.
bump 🙂
Just caught up with series one on the Iplayer - some of the best writing I've seen in a long time. Gentle, but with enough zest and humour to make it a joy to watch.
Just as good as the last series. Love it.
Aah, superb. Nostalgia conventions aren't what they used to be, brilliant.
Steve Austin,only £100,000..bargain 🙂

Finished series 1 on the iPlayer last night.
Bishop : They remind me of something.
Sophie : Simon and Garfunkel?
Bishop : No, Arseholes.
Mrhoppy, loved that line !
Was very good last night, but my Mackenzie crook really is very skinny !
Just utterly brilliant.
Simple, effective, very funny, subtle, exceptional writing.
It went too quickly, no sooner had I turned the TV on to watch it than it was over, felt like 10mins 😐
That's how good this programme is.
Diana Rigg too!!
Superb. I was worried that the 2nd series may not be as good as the first, but on last night's show it certainly is.
Excellent I have it on series link. I shall be watching sunday night with a selection of ales from our new Aldi.
I too feared it wouldn't be as good, and it wasn't quite as good. Given that, I'd happily have watched the next five episodes back to back because when the new characters, situations and story strands get up and running it's going to be wonderful telly. (I recently watched all of series 1 back to back on a long flight and it was the shortest three hours of the entire journey.)
I think it's manoeuvring for a third or fourth series whereas I was expecting a six episode resolution to the Bishop's Farm story. Which is why I'm not a writer / film maker I guess!
Pearce Quigley (Russell) is still stealing every scene he's in, Sheila still as fantastically bonkers, and Varde just as silent. And far and away the best theme tune of any TV series ever. It fits perfectly, and gives me goosebumps.
Can't wait for next week.
And BUMP for the "eh, whats all this fuss about?" crowd... 😆
Simon and Garfunkel are back.
So what is the German bloke really up to?
I thought the first one this series was a bit slow, but last nights was as good as any of the last series IMV.
Love it.
PS: Agree re Russell. If you read his lines on paper they'd look crap but he makes the role utterly compeling.
Nothing to do with detectorists (well, tenuous link via simon & garfunkel character), the second series of yonderland is on the sky catchup service.
"In Latin"
genius, proper 😆 out loud moment that one.
But each episode is over in a flash.
They do go so quickly don't they. No sooner you settle into the theme tune than the credits roll up.
Fine writing and exceptional acting.
Drawn in hook line and sinker.
My thoughts exactly!
If the German bloke upsets Sophie I will be very angry with him.
I reckon Lance's daughter might end up running away with the German.
Nice to see Russell and Hugh pull the mayor's chain, happy endings.
I'd never heard of the program until this thread.
Jumped straight in with season 2 and am now up to date. Brilliant stuff.
The episodes really do fly by.
Roll on ep5.
'Have any of you chaps seen a trampoline?'
Pure brilliance!
It would take some heavy chains to stop me going to Africa with that.
'Have any of you chaps seen a trampoline?'Pure brilliance!
The scene with the lemonade was just pure brilliance.
'Have any of you chaps seen a trampoline?'Pure brilliance!
"Potentially." - priceless.
Margarine
Wow - this looks even better on a big HD telly! Was watching on a tablet before - doesn't really showcase the lovely filming.
Why can't I find season one on iplayer?
It seems to not be on I player, but I found it on daily motion. The episodes are ordered wrong, which is a bit confusing...
ITunes, £9.99 series 1
It's a delightful show. Long may it continue.
Watched episode 5 last night. The Lemonade scene was proper laugh out loud funny.
'The reason i can't understand anything that comes out of your mouths is because you are as thick as 2 short plonks'
'planks'
'your welcome'
I'm giggling just typing it
Restless night, woke early and thanks to sc-cx watched the whole of series 1 back-to-back on Daily Motion
Sublime
There was a great article in some country life esq magazine with Mackenzie Crook about this, he explained he wanted it to be as much about the scenery as it was about the characters.
To be fair, he's got it nailed, on all counts.
Great just great looking forward to the Christmas episode 🙂
Well that was lovely, you kinda knew something would turn up in the end for Lance, and it did twofold. As for Africa? well we'll have to wait until Xmas - perhaps!!
Great series.
Makes me wonder if there will be a series 3.. 😕
Great finish,I will miss it badly.
as much about the scenery as it was about the characters
Yup ,really nice and some subtle detail.
I got abushed by that wee scene at the pub, with Sheila and Lance.
Giving Lance support about his daughter and then, that hint of something
lost. 🙁
I've loved both series so much, fantastic ending.
RM.
Terrific series. It was a great finish last night.
Its an absolute joy to watch. Series where you really do care about the characters are a rare thing indeed.
Absolutely brilliant.
Best TV I've seen in a long while.
Need to find series 1 now and savour it!
I haven't watched last night yet but it one of the best TV series of recent years.
It has a certain wistfulness to it, not sadness, just a yearning for a simple life in the countryside or a memory from childhood.

That scene was brilliantly well played and all the more jarring because she's been played so lightly up to that point.
It sums up why I love the programmes, it makes time for the characters and doesn't push to be making jokes all the time. It's so well acted not just by the main cast but all of the 'lesser' roles. The funny bits are generally superb when they come and are all the better for being given space to appreciate them and shows a real confidence in the script.
It was brilliant. A perfect ending...
Makes me wonder if there will be a series 3..
I reckon Mackenzie Crook will have learned from Ricky Gervais' formula...two series of 6 then a Christmas special.
Excellent. Lance is the sort of Dad you want.
Just lovely
Feel good TV
Watched episode 5 again and noticed that the dirt sharks sir names are Peters and Lee instead of Simon and Garfunkel 🙂 u
That was superb. First class.
We lost the ice cream van to Framlingham Sausage Fest
😆
Just bloody wonderful. Loved the end. Nothing to add to the comments here. Beautifully written, cast, acted, directed and filmed.
Too many unanswered questions for there not to be 3rd and 4th series.
"Have you got a syndrome?"
Just dawned on me that the mother in law, is actually her real mum 😀
Which brings on the thought of Imagining having Diana Rigg as your mother in law 😈
Now, where are those old avengers episodes...
None better. Another perfect series.
Gold dance! 😀
Just watched the last one again, second time tonight! Toby Jones at the end, his face as he realises. A perfect encapsulation of what that means to Lance, after all those years of ring pulls. Goose bumps and tears both times I've watched it.
Top drawer telly. I hope there's more.
Just watched the final episode. Same emotions as Goon.
Great TV.
Glad it wasn't just me then!
Just watched the last episode. Perfectly done.
Oh, and the music. The whole series is way more than the sum of its parts. If you haven't, watch Muke's link above.
First program I have watched start to finish in years. Bit jaded with modern TV, but like this..........
[soft git]I filled up when Lance found his gold[/soft git]
This ^
Absolutely loved it. Nothing to add to the comments above. Scenery, every single character is compelling and space around the jokes. But really it's all about the quality of the character performances. (And when I say performances - these guys seem to be able to act just with their wrinkles and facial hair.)
One question, what was the German guy looking for? Lance said he'd been mislead by someone else about there being gold - are we to take that at face value? Didn't a German gold coin turn up earlier? Have I missed something or is this stuff saved up for the Xmas episode?
Perfect TV, just fantastic.
I hope the BBC still finds resources to fund programs like that with all these cuts going on.
Gentle tv but with characters that are rounded and so well acted that it's a drama more than a comedy.
Proper welled up at the end there.
Mackenzie Crook is discussing Detectorists on Rad Mac on 6 Music now.
"A love letter to the English countryside"
Indeed
Had only seen the first episode, so got the lot from iPlayer for my jaunt to Florida this week.
What a delightful piece of television. A fine balance of comedy and drama, delivered to perfection by the cast.
Lance finding his gold was, well, television gold!
Don't forget the Xmas special
thepurist - MemberDon't forget the Xmas special
Yeah, Wednesday 23rd Dec at 22:00. Repeated Thursday 02:30 if you miss it or will probably be on iPlayer.
Cheers for the heads up.
I've set up an alert...
