So glad I didn’t buy a cheap one for £150 the other week. Cheap, nasty rubbish, obviously!

They have to be careful, they could be accused of profiteering!

Its a well thought out frame that rides brilliantly!

Someone needs to do a monitor for price tracking there, like camelcamelcamel does for Amazon.

Probably have to use logarithic scale for the price axis on the graph...

I fully expect 'Logarithmic Scale' to be the name of their next do-it-all hardtail

I hate Planet X pricing, it makes no sense at all other than spammy email bull shittery! It’s a fantastic frame and one I’ll no doubt purchase in coming months but as a company they are dog shit!

I'm happy as I bought my Fatty secondhand - big win.
I'm sad as I bought my Fatty Trail at the wrong time and realised I didn't like suspension forks on a fat bike - big lose.
I'm happy again as I bought my Carbon Evo Road bike thingy at the mega low price point in January and it was £400 less than the current price.
Would I buy a bike at the release price from them? Probably not.

If there’s something you’re after from planetx:

1. Search for it on the site
2. Paste the URL and your email into https://visualping.io/
3. Wait for the inevitable sale/bundle/deal/offer on it.

Even DFS have to put up the prices on items sometimes so they can legitimately say it’s on offer at £x off.

This is one of the reasons I’ve never bought a bike from them. Always get the “will it be massively cheaper in a weeks time” vibe and therefore don’t buy. There’s a lot to be said for a stable pricing system.

New to Planet-X pricing shenanigans. I really want one of these but just missed the £150 offer. A four fold price hike is a mahoosive piss take. Is there a reasonable chance they'll be punting them out at 150 quid again?

Yep  I'm actively moving (have moved) away from any company that employs this kind of pricing.

A legitimate sale period is fine but the yoyo pricing as a method of stock control or marketing can foad as far as I'm concerned.

(Full disclosure - I bought a Pompino on sale back in the day and it was ace)

I saw they downgraded the forks on some of their completes. I was just about to pull the trigger on a Big Dog when I spotted it. I'm guessing it was down to stock, but downgrading the fork and keeping the price the same seemed a bit sneaky

Might just be that they have the same number of frames left as build kits. And setting a high price is an easy way of stopping people buying them whilst still letting the software pick them when people order the complete bikes?

I dont think £600 was ever the full price was it?

I'm sure they did it with a rockshox 35 for about five hundred at some point.

Easier still to just remove the frame option from the website? Temporarily perhaps if they plan on restocking? Very odd way to do business 😐

Frames did all disappear from the site for a few days.

I've been watching for a Whippet and tracking changes with visualping just shows how often things disappear then come back or get pricing endlessly tweaked.

I'm sure when they first released it the price was £250 and it had £100 off. I don't understand how they can more than double their original sale price?

There will be a code next week, pxripoff £300 off.

Just set a price and leave it. If it doesn't sell, put it on offer. Picking a random price seems dishonest to me. If they don't want to sell frames then just delete the stock count. Their website can't be that bad can it?

How can you offer something at a massive "discount" unless it's priced ludicrously for a few weeks for show?

Yep I’m actively moving (have moved) away from any company that employs this kind of pricing.

Totally agree. I once got my double glazing done by a company and their sales tagine at the time was essentially "buy the windows of your house for a fair price and you can also get the rear windows also for a fair price". They were excellent, indeed fair, and cleaned up through word of mouth. Zero discounts given, zero over pricing done.

Up and down pricing and the ability to save a few quid through a dodgy secondary retailer are incredibly off-putting.

Is this the reason for the price hike? Jack up the price so we snap their hands off with a damaged frame at just £25 less than a perfect one with a headset?

I do love my scandal frame but finding it harder to like px these days!

Pickenflick frame only £500! They werent much more with a £200 fork!

And the free ranger and fork is now £1199

There was a post on Facebook the other day, pretty much said they can't get frames due to the pandemic so are concentrating on full builds with what's left, I guess doing that keeps people busy and they have better margins. And no point having OEM build kits sat on the shelf that you can't sell because you've run out of frames. Hence I guess why full builds have gone upto RRP and frame's have been given silly prices, they've sold everything so no need/point discounting what's left.
