I'm impressed by your lightning quick response but no.Edit...tell you what.. I will check back in in an hour. I assume you will have a devistating whitty reply by then. If not you can just fax me directly?
ooooOOOOOooo!
Bikebuoy, did you wee in his boots, or on his barbeque?
Oh, Yosemite has finally installed, updates to iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto being done, I'll have a shufti at what everything looks like in a bit.
TBH, the playlist changes in iTunes are going to make the biggest difference to me, everything else is largely eye-candy, seeing as how little I use OS X.
Bikebuoy, did you wee in his boots, or on his barbeque?
Both! Then I caught him stealing my girlfiends underwear from the washing line and wearing them on his head, all of that I can forgive. Trolling is another matter.
😆
Oh dear me...
I am disappointed to find that handoff doesn't work, as the BT chipset in my MBP is too old. Boo.
On the plus side, it hasn't broken the printer as I expected it to do.
iMovie no longer crashes my machine. That can only be a good thing.

Kiwijohn, what RAM are you running on it?8G ram here on a late '08 2.0 and it seems fine so far
I've only got 4 Gb of ram, which may be why I'm seeing so many beachballs. Have to check if it can take more.
Probably should have done the newer iMac first.
Everything working fine for me so far.
All working here, not sure about the new look but guess that will grow on me.
I do like the proper maximise button in the left side now, could never understand why they had the full-screen button on the right. Worth the upgrade for that....
One thing I would like though is some sort of tutorial/help video to highlight the new features once installed. I'm probably missing out on lots of new features.
Heh....my laptop just started ringing.
Thanks Drac.
My laptop isn't ringing yet, apparently theres a phone update required on Monday?
Loving the iDrive feature on my Mac, must more integrated than the previous MS OneDrive that I was using.
What age is your Macbook as older ones like mine aren't compatible.
It's this years macbook, and an iPhone 5c.
I have noticed my web browsing seems slower than before though, with pages taking a lot longer to load. Not sure if that's a connection issue though so will wait until I get to the Uni on Tuesday to try it there.
I'm "on the road" otherwise I'd have updated straightaway as usual. Looking forward to the new features.
@kiwi, I think 4gb ram combined with the older / slower hard drives of those machines is a so-so combination for the lastest OSX. You can buy a single 8gb ram stick and jump to 10gb, this is cheaper than 2x4=8. Look on MacRumours or owc website for recommendations. RAM fairly simple I think on those machines once you get the screws holding the back on off.

Should be fine then if you're running iOS 8 you'll need to enable it though.
Since the "upgrade" it seems to take an hour and a half to start up.

An hour and a half? That must be a terrible 90 minutes for you.
...well, maybe not the worse 90 minutes you've experienced of late.

Back of the net!
😀
Just had a moment of clarity.... If I get Dr North to update her MBP then her inability to find either of her iPhones will be negated as I can call her laptop.
I love you all.
How long will the 5.16Gb of Yosemite take to download on a very rural 2Mbps average download speed? Please... Before I condemn the household internet to bugger all...
Depends. Only way to know for sure is start it and see. It will tell you how long to complete, and you can always pause it, and resume later.
Fair do's, thanks Jamie. I'll kick it off when Slack jr trots off to beddy-byes.
Slack - it took me about 4hrs or so, and I'm pretty rural.
Given that my MBP is ancient, I'm pretty happy with how it's running, and liking being able to call from it too. Other than that, there are a few things not possible given the age of the machine (sounds like a euphamism - probably is too). 🙂
Given that my MBP is ancient,
How ancient? Early 2011 MBP here and it doesn't work :-/
Just installed. Looks EXACTLY like a Gnome theme I had on a Mint install a while back. Will play with Handoff.
Does that mean my 2011 macbook wont be able to do phonecalls and texts too or is it just the mail/safari handoff stuff?
Cheers Jambalya.
I'm currently on OSX 10.5.8 and apparently need to buy Snow Leopard for $20 and the upgrade to Yosemite...is it worth doing?
Had a bit of grief with the handoff (macbook air 2013, iPhone 5s, ipad mini from 2013), ended up having to sign everything out of iCloud and sign it back in. Apparently it should work on wifi, but without bluetooth turned on, doesn't work for me.
Answering calls on the mac is ace. It's like Skype gone mad. And enabling the 'dark' theme and ditching the transparency makes it look clean and fresh. Spotlight is much improved as well. Good upgrade so far.
Now I'm back in the land of 4G and an internet connection faster than a worm escaping a Crow, I'll give it a whirl tonight.
Thanks for sorting the bugs out for me 😆

Really ? My 2009 Mac Mini will run Yosemiti (left it downloading this morning)
After getting over the Fisher Price 'My first OS' approach to icons and buttons, I have decided it looks fantastic.
However. After running rock solidly all weekend, the internet and then Wi-Fi suddenly started dropping out (router and access point up and all other devices merrily connecting away). Google tells me this is a not uncommon issue. Strange that it didn't manifest itself straight away. I will check this evening to see if the problem is still there.

Exactly what I thought! Though from a distro before Mint <ramble.. moan etc.>
I read Handjob for Handoff and hence am a little disappointed with Yosemite.
Good that's it not just me BN.
You know, the more I look at it, the more I think this might be right:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/10/07/apple_ipad_mac_bastard_child/
Observation: IOS and OSX now look so similar to soften us up for the introduction of the above device, which will reintroduce the name "iBook".
Oh good, I already have an ibook.
Loving the look and feel of it now. Found some great features hat will help me no end, calling from my MBA is inspired.
So can I make the calendar in Notifications sync with the Google calendar I use?
EDIT - done.

Works fine on mine.

The opposite for me, I had the wifi connection issues with Mountain Lion, installing Yosemite has solved the problem been stable and no issues connecting since.
my new air 2 has shipped 😀
though the ferries and air seems so be looking dodgy 🙁
I'm fairly convinced the bastard child discussed above will happen, would be great for travelling, homeworking, hotdesking etc - I was hoping they would announce something like this last week:
I have indeed, it's on my list to upgrade from my iP3, but I'll wait until xmas and probably get an upgrade on my iP5s at the same time.
All in Gold of course.. 😉
@ninfan - I am hoping they get them in-store this week in NY as they are £75 cheaper there, I'm finally upgrading my iPad 1 8)
bikebouy I admire your strength of character if not your taste ! Phone is great btw, so much better than my 4S which now looks minute
I'm back already, perhaps it could be brought over by an American ? 😉
That's where internal transfers are great, when we went to NY we flew Newcastle to Heathrow and back the same way. When we got off at Newcastle there was no customs as it was an internal flight, not that I had anything to declare of course. *cough*
Anybody running this on a 2008/2009 basic Macbook (can't remember what vintage mine is). Its currently running fine on the previous version of OSX.
How are people getting on with Yosemite long term? I think I'm about to upgrade a couple of minis and my MBA - any gotchas to be aware of?
Ta
I have grown to like the new icons. Runs find on both my works 2009 iMac and 2014 iMac, runs just as expected on my 2014 mbp.
it's fine... it was fine almost from the start unlike one or two previous releases
My MB Air takes forever to shut down, spinning wheel thing goes on forever, personally knowing now what I do, I wouldn't have bothered upgrading from mavericks, it even forces me to answer the bloody mobile even if I've left it in the van, or it's in my coat pocket way down the hall, very inconvenient.
Other than that can't see that many improvements.
My 2013 11" base model MB Air runs fine with it, my 2012 base model mac mini less so, it has slowed down a fair bit, spinning wheels and icons bouncing on the bottom of the screen for a while before opening. Overall usability hasn't really changed, I use it the same way I did before, albeit answering the phone with my laptop is pretty cool and works well.
Its been fine, as per @atlatz I had more trouble with Mavericks with gmail account issues in the Mail app. I have it on a 2009 base processor Mini now with 8GB ram and 7200rpm hdd. I always install the new OSX as soon as it's released, likewise for phones/ipad.
@rs you might like to try and run some diagnostics and a blackmagicspeed test on the hardrive, that could be on the way out in the Mini.
I have been using it from beta and found it very good and easy to use. Very few bugs even in beta.
I like hand off and find picking up my calls on my Mac very useful. If a little strange when phone, Mac and iPad all ring at once (but you can switch it off)
