You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I used it this weekend, plotted the route at home on Friday evening (on my mobile) and downloaded the map to device.
Was out on Saturday with no signal and although the route had downloaded, it didn't show.
I knew where I was going but wanted a practice at using the app (stupid admission - I'd also picked up the wrong paper map!).
So nothing showed when I opened my route on the device, just a blank screen - no GPS position marker either - despite staring at it for 5 minutes.
Got home, had a moan to my partner, switched my data and mobile settings off on my phone to demo the issue - and it loaded immediately!
The app is good, the maps are good...but it appears to have a bit of an issue at times.
Saying that 20 quid is a great price for access to the mapping levels on it.
I find it's best to download the route and check it appears on your map, ie at home or wherever you definitely have signal. This way, it should remain active for when you're ready to start.
Big fan, great for finding and downloading routes from their library.
I download the map before setting off, switch to flight mode, restart the app to check that the map is fully downloaded. I generally leave my phone on flight mode in the hills as it saves battery life without is struggling to find a network all the time...
What footflaps said
I use it too (using the digital download codes that appear on paper maps) and it is good when it works but really doesn't like no / patchy data which for an outdoor exploration app is ridiculous. I suspect the developers have never ventured out of an urban area.
Good price however having used it for a year, now much prefer Outdoor Active app (formally ViewRanger) which also features OS maps and isn’t much more money.
I've had it since before Christmas after a previous PSA on here. It's great to have access to all that mapping but I tried to import a gpx for the first time at the weekend. It just kept saying 'sorry, something went wrong' every time I tried, which was frustrating.
Also not the apps fault, but I've just discovered my newish Motorola phone doesn't have a compass which means I can't access a lot of the functionality. WTF! Every smartphone I've ever had has had an inbuilt compass!
Yes, I do have a real compass for proper nav!

Works fine, you just download the map before you set off.
No app will work well if you don't have coverage and you use it expecting to be able to download maps out of coverage.

i went through a stage of buying os maps for £3.50-4 using the download key and selling on the papermap,
since this subscription model i cannot create routes on my laptop as osmap details do not show, even though i have 35-40 bought maps, it works on my phone/ipad,
i'll create a route and always download the hardcopy map on to my phone so i can switch to airplane mode and not kill off my battery (phone tying to find a network on moors when their isnt one)
its a good deal otherwise.

It's a gift card type affair that comes in the post.

Maps downloaded but if data is patchy sometimes app won't start and hangs, sometimes routes won't load, plotting routes is hit and miss - that's not working fine. Lets not forget the app developers made a version that broke the app for a good couple of weeks for everybody, so we are not talking top flight programmers here.
So ... only ever download maps for use in devices using the website, not the app. The website gives you 2 options for downloading a gpx, the app doesn't. The format the app uses for gpx isn't use able in the likes of garmin devices. They "upgraded" the app last year and this happened. Grr.
Yeah, download route and it was on device as I checked several times on way to ride. However, when I got to the ride, no signal so no calls or data and the app refused to load the downloaded map.
