Just a HUKD repost..

We got a Ooni SH recently but this looks ok for the cash. Pellet rather than gas and probably limited stock.

Does anyone have any experience of this, or a genuine Ooni and can spot anything that looks wrong with this clone?

We have an Ooni. I cant see anything that different here. As long as the airflow works OK i cant imagine its much different.

I'm tempted, looks like the ooni has a bigger hopper for pellets. I don't know if this is useful or not.

I've ordered one.

In some ways it feels like a bargain compared to a £250 Ooni one, but in others it still feels extortionate for a few bits of thin pressed steel and a floor tile.

Could the same not be said of a few bits of carbon fibre sheet thrown in a mould with a smattering of spinny and springy aluminium bits hung off it, being sold for many, many, many thousands of pounds???

R&D, staff, overheads, yadda, yadda

Yep, same here - thanks. I'd been thinking of buying an Ooni but couldn't really justify the price.

Of course now I will have to buy pellets, a peel, thermometer etc etc etc ....

Comes with a peel! We got pellets from Lakeland for about £12

That looks a cracking deal, my bighorn cost £109 and cooks cracking pizza but had to buy a peel and didn't come with a bag to put it in
3 months after I bought it forgot about the stone needs to be kept in its polystyrene and with it in the boot of my car I cracked the stone £25 for a replacement
Ooni you are just paying for the name

Looks ok but

I’m tempted, looks like the ooni has a bigger hopper for pellets. I don’t know if this is useful or not.

I found with our uuni 3 that you needed to keep the pellets topped up all the time, to the point where it made singlehanded use a real faff. Needed someone on pellet duty really, if they got too low you’d get smoke and poor heat for a while.

Don’t know how much capacity this has but could mean even more time spent chucking pellets in.

Bought the gas burner for it as soon as it came out and never used pellets again. I have a hard time recommending these pellet ovens to anyone, the wood ones (eg Ooni Karu are fine, gas is fine, pellets suck the fun out of it.

Thanks OP. Had a £30 Currys voucher from a return ages ago, just found a reason to use it. 👍

Vito iacopelli is who you are after for dough once you get your respective deliveries!

Do the overnight poolish version beforehand.

Oven looks fine, all it is, is a stone, casing, chimney and fire at the back end and the air flow, not a lot to go wrong with them. So looks like it'll work fine. As with the Ooni, it's just about controlling the fire and sticking the pizza in when it's at the right flame. Can be too warm can be too cold, a nice medium steady flame is good.

I burn small bits of pine logs in mine, kindling batons, so no pellets, for pellets wouldn't imagine the size matters, but looks like you can't just burn wood in it, opening looks small in that sense, which I guess doesn't really matter if all you are going to do is use pellets.

No idea if there's a benefit to wood or pellets.

I've been using these for a few years with my Uuni 2 with no issues, much better value that the Ooni branded ones.

More newbie questions - do you actually need a IR thermometer, or is it just a nice toy?

More importantly - does the table the oven stands on get hot? If so, what do you put underneath? Sheet of plywood OK?

is this other peoples' experience too? Was tempted by one but, a) I'm really lazy and don't want to have to do this & b) already have a gas bbq/grill so a gas pizza-oven makes sense. Probably wait until BF/off-season for a deal on a gas one!

Yes. Once it's going you need to top the hopper up pretty much every pizza. The gas burner attachment made it a lot easier (can just concentrate on the pizza).

thanks. off the list then!! I was always dead against non-charcoal BBQs but, having got a big gas one, it allows you to concentrate on cooking/socialising/drinking when doing a large meal rather than fuel-management! Sounds like this is the same.

I've not used an Ooni 3, but with our Unni 2 it really isn't a ballache to add a scoop of pellets when you remove a pizza before stretching, topping and launching the next one...

One solution is to put a steel jam funnel into the hopper to increase capacity.
I still swapped to gas though!

you don't need one you learn by height of the flame.
