Spotted in ASDA yesterday, they're knocking out Jura Origin and Superstition for £25 a bottle, with a free hip flask. Superstition is a steal at that price.

Is that much of a deal, bar the hip flask?

I staht much of a deal

Have you started on the bottle already? (-:

Superstition is about £35 normally IIRC, Jura Origin (or to give it its proper name, Jura) about £30. I think. It's been a while since I last bought it.

The flask isn't bad actually, if a bit small. Came up as £4 on the till receipt which is then promoed off again so you could presumably buy it separately if you were so inclined.

Blagged a bottle of Auchentoshan in Sainsbury's a while back for £20 odd. It's back to full on rrp again now though.
Was in the other day and got a bottle of Penderyn for £29. Not sure if that's a bargain, but it's a winner in the taste department.

The nicest expression of Jura without spending serious £££ is the Elixir, IMO. Absolutely delicious.

Used to only be available in Sainsbury's, in half bottles. Not sure if that's still the case.

Dalwhinnie Winter Gold and Auchentoshan American Wood (very vanilla), both £25

Bought the winter gold last year, very unimpressed.

Just picked up the talisker 10yr in Tesco for thirty, v. nice. Out of the two new taliskers (Skye and storm?) I preferred the one that was meant to be cheaper, can't remember which way round they are.

Dubious about any drink that calls itself Superstition, to be honest.

£25 in Tesco and my favorite because my son wont touch it.

These whiskys though, do we think they are actually "special" they seem to be all made by big corps, suspect its just us feeling better about getting pissed?

There are ways around that.

The big thing with the 'corporation' brands is consistency. The fact that they can make the same product year on year is quite remarkable.

Have found that with a lot of "expressions", very little difference and often no real improvement for more money. We tried 3 or 4 of the Jura ones back to back and couldn't really taste much difference in them to our presumably uneducated palates!

Good price for the ever consistent Highland Park is £25 - Should be in some sainsburys at the moment.

The supermarket own brand Islays are a fantastic pot luck opportunity to drink some good whisky for less then £20. It will be good because it's from Islay. You just dont know what it is till you open it up.
