Only outdoor sites and practice social distancing obviously!
I have a fortnight self-isolation now*, so getting out in the fresh air and enjoying nice scenery would be very beneficial, a number of medical people on telly have all made the same point, that walking in woods, or just nice parkland, especially now that spring is well on its way, is really helpful for people’s general mental health and well-being; I certainly feel better after a decent walk, it gives me lots to look at and think about.
*Depends on whether they shut down the business for a period of time - jobs are safe, but SSP doesn’t pay as much as the job does, so traveling may be curtailed to conserve fuel.
****ing ridiculous but then the National Trust are always Dick's about anything it's possible for them to be Dicks about. Paris parks have been shut for the very good reason that people don't respect the 2m rule and social distancing even if repected doesn't work well enough to stop spread. Beaches have been shut for the same reasons. Having places open that will get people out and attract people from wide areas is I repeat, ****ing ridiculous.
As for a fuel shortage that really is unlikely. The only vehicle to pass my house while typing this has been the empty bus. Almost nothing is moving. Electricity demand is down over 10% and petrol stations probably have stock till the Summer already in their tanks at this level of demand.
There was no mention of fuel shortage. People on stat sick pay me be limiting travel due to reduced income to buy fuel.
Nice that people will have an area to get some exercise to keep their mental state clean.
Fuel shortage?
Nope BP are giving free fuel to emergency vehicles.
I live next to Dartmoor, on a normal day more than 500yds from a car park and you are unlikely to see another soul. I'll be going there.
Exactly Jambo.
Peak of summer in the Cheviots usually don’t see another soul.
Even places like Cragside on the walks you’ll only see a few, the bulk or rammed into the house.
Morden Hall park is right in the thick of the populated area and encouraging people to go there is ****ing ridiculous.
Edit: people have enough stupid ideas about how to pass the time on their hands without publicising locations they can go. But then in a country with pubs still open what do you expect?
Sadly as us NT outdoor volunteers have been told not to go in there will be a vast amount of litter and dog sh*t bags not getting picked up
But then in a country with pubs still open what do you expect?
I expect them to allow people to enjoy the countryside.

I live alongside Wareham Forest Jam bo, its my go to short ride. Went out yesterday in the middle of a school week and in the drizzle. It was absolutely packed! Busier than the tourist season.
Hope Dartmoor stays calm.
It was absolutely packed!
And therin lies the problem. People haven't got to grips with the idea that people are going to have to temporarily give up some personal freedoms if they don't want people they love dying of this virus.
I don't expect to be allowed to use the countryside any more than I expect anything more tha food and water in thess exceptioanl times, and hopefully some access to appropriate medical care if despite everyone playing the game the virus continues for the months ahead.
All this singing on the balconies is greeted positively but you have millions of people singing within 2.7m of each other, if confinement isn't givng the same results as in China perhaps there's a connection.

I think its more than that!
France 48.1GW
UK 37.5GW
@ 9am france is often nearly double the UK.
You are also exporting a fair bit so France really is quiet

I saw loads of walkers out on my ride yesterday. All were over 70's.
Maybe they are getting some fresh air before the home confinement starts.
And I think the chance of getting a bug in the outdoors is significantly less than in a queue at Asda
At our local nt property the staff are doing the roving ranger role which is basically litter picking and helping people if need be. Everyone I saw there were in small family groups or couples all keeping a sensible distance from each other. It was nice to be out. Can't see the problem with this. Where as the guy standing behind me breathing down my neck at the co op checkout, that I do have problem with.
Fro the Graun:
The UK’s National Trust has announced that it will close its parks and gardens from midnight on Saturday, to help “restrict the spread of the coronavirus”.
Better late than never.
The National trust car park in Langdale was free today and beyond full ..
Where we live you can safely get out into open countryside and be sensible in you social distancing. Yesterday we cycled to a local hill and had a picnic, boy was it cold and windy.
However from what I've just seen on the news, with city parks being rammed and not much social distancing going on then it's understandable that the NT have closed their parks and gardens.
I walked through one of our local parks yesterday, one that’s fenced and gated, and there were a few people walking their dogs and out with their kids, and most did seem to be keeping some distance.
Sadly, it may end up being closed, but I hope not. Fortunately, where I live there’s loads of open countryside around, I can drive a few miles and have most of the Marlborough Downs, or the south Cotswolds, pretty much to myself, which is how I like it.
I'm not allowed to drive anywhere now without a very good reason. That means a local supermarket, a local pharmacie and... that's it. I can't drive to a second home and even if I could get to the beach or the mountains I'd get arrested if I ventured onto/up them. Looking after the horses has been delegated to the land owner.
Parks are shut, there's a curfew from 22:00 to 05:00 in an increasing number of towns, you can't move for police and drones and helicopters.
The garden is 50m long so jogging is a bit like swimming (the pool is shut). On guy ran a marathon on his 7m long balcony.
And that's how it should be. I'm hoping for a flattening curve here by next weekend.
A flattering curve just means what they are doing is working, and therefore needs to be sustained for a considerable period... no?
Yes, like the Chinese. I hope the same can be achieved, if it can there's a chance of a return to more normal life by the Summer.
I rode up to Cragg Quarry yesterday; it's not far from my house. I have never seen so many people walking around there.
At one spot there was a group of 20-30 people sat around in the sun laughing how they should be distancing. Madness.
Because of dicks like these, lock down is inevitable.
