Middle son, baker in Tesco, just put out the first mince pies* of the year. They've got some every day now until new year....

*Even I can tell you that these are not pies,  but clearly someone in Tesco doesn't know.

Yeah I think I'd call that a lattice ...It's not a tart:

an open pastry case with a filling, usually of something sweet such as fruit

They were in Sainsbury's in Huddersfield yesterday. I don't recall seeing them that early before.... I was very tempted to buy some but resisted.

It is in Birmingham. Or somewhere. Struggling to find the right accent.

And so it begins.

It's getting earlier each year.

Saw them in Morrison's last Saturday, along with Christmas cakes and puddings!

It was marvellous how they managed to fit them in next to the Halloween tat.

I'd be disappointed if they last that long, there'd have to be something wrong with them

Done loads of baking to keep us on the go, flapjack, crumble bars and Mars bar brownies, so they will just be a top up.

Nothing will last the five weeks so will be topping up in Spain France and Italy.

Not just mince pies. Local Tesco is clearly under starters orders for something that won't happen for over 3 months.

Ha - what took them so long

I was in Costco on the 1st of August and they had their Christmas stuff out. Every third person passing was stopping to take a photo and text or tweet their indignation/surprise.

That said theres already flour and eggs in the shops and its even longer til pancake day.

@Scotroutes is correct.

Blinkin’ English.  They couldn’t tell their mince from their mincemeat.

Though to be fair I am partial to either (both?) a decent mince pie (with nicely browned off onion for preference, probably beef) or mincemeat pie.

Saw the last week in Woollies and Coles. Mince pies in August. May as well bring out the Easter eggs too.

They were delicious and proper sweet pastry. That dainty little bite was from me (yellow helmet), nbt would have taken two bites.

Just finished the last one. Now onto home made cranberry and orange crumble bars intermingled with some flapjack. Should last well into France. After that will need to hit the Soreen stash for Italy
