10 minutes from Blackburn to Holmfirth - that'd knock a chunk of your commute wouldn't it?

Good point. Before the 60th anniversary run - out of the blue two Tornado's did a mid-week sneaky low/fast recc'y of the WLT/dam area. I only got to see them by chance. Left me and two walkers a giggly-mess.

I'm thinking Gummers How will be a good spot to watch the Windermere flypast, as I'd imagine they'll fly down the lake on the way to Morecambe.

Now just to plan* an other-half-friendly route round Holmfirth for Sunday.

*should anyone local be able to offer some advice I'd be grateful, my history of picking green dashed lines that turnout to be fun isn't so hot.

Thumper and Vera - here I come.

Will Holmefirth be rammed? Is there somewhere nearby where we can park? I can't walk too far atm, so a mile or under, outside the village would be good.

The sooner the (good) Argentinians get rid of their incompetent leadership the better. Theyll implode before they fight again.

Nah, it's one Lancaster and the Vulcan, as the other Lanc is Canadian.

There will be three running Lancasters at E Kirby on 14 Sep (though granted NX611 won't be flying).

Good question Bluearsedfly.

I thought about Darwen Tower but then looked at the map - if they take a straight run to Holmforth then they are more likely to cross over Ramsbottom way after leaving Blackburn.

So Peel Tower or maybe get up to Lee or Cragg Quarries.

Think i may take a chance on Peel Tower.

A Lancaster went straight over my head at about 5pm today as I was heading up towards two lads.

Never seen anything like it.... And felt like I could have reached up and touched it it was that close.

Anybody else see it?

My mind couldn't compute it to be honest. My first thought was that it was a plane crashing and my second that we were being invaded! From a distance I thought it must be a herc but no mistaking when it came over.

Not something you see everyday.

sadly no flights over the SW 🙁

Saw one flanked by a Hurricane and a Spitfire fly over the house earlier in the summer though. Knew what it was before I saw it.

Any idea on where will be best to watch tomorrow in West/South Yorkshire?

I'm going with my old man, and brother, and we were planning to go up Holme Moss, but it's about 4miles away from the flight path. Have you lovely lot got a better plan?

We'll be coming across from Leeds.

Think I'm going to head over to Samlesbury instead of Blackburn, apparently they are going over the new Thwaites site at Mellor Brook http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/11455373.ONCE_IN_A_LIFETIME__Lancaster_Bombers_to_fly_over_East_Lancashire_this_weekend/

Nice and flat over there too so should be a decent view.

That was ace! Watched from Tetney Lock - got out of the car and they were approaching from the west about half a mile south. Just after they passed us they did a full 180 turn and went right over us. Amazing sight!

Bit too far away for my camera - these are quite heavily cropped, but still very worth the trip up from Sheff. We were up on the hill to the east side of thw town, and they flew a big loop around us. A surprisingly low key event compared to the dambusters one last year at Ladybower.

Was stood near to the main gates at BAe, they more or less came straight over our heads.

Almost had a dusty eye moment.

Even Mrs B was impressed (which isn't often).

Nah, grew up in the south lakes and heard and seen plenty of jets flying over on manoeuvres over the years. The sound this morning though was certainly propeller based.

I saw them coming over the M65 as I was coming back from Lee Quarry. Flew up and over our heads, all traffic slowed down. I turned the radio off and dropped all the windows to listen fantastic sights and sounds.

Just back from a packed Morecambe where we stood on the end of the stone jetty. Everyone went quiet as we watched two tiny lines over the mountains of Lakes come towards us. They looked like they were going to fly past us to Heysham then banked round and flew right over us. Bloody awesome. Loved it. 😀
