Pizza Hut delivery scheduled, wife will be out. Frankly, I can't think of better evening that does not involve Shakira and olive oil.

Great film. I remember watching it as a kid, and it really set my imagination alight. I spent ages stretching string across doorways and between trees. 🙂

One of my favourites as a kid too, we used copper wire taken from disposed electronic items left at the Workshops on the hospital grounds I grew up in. We'd then sneak into the area where the residents made garden ornaments, it was an old granary so lost of doors, pretend they were the Nazis and sneak around the building.

One of my faves too,I watched it the other day.
I read the book as a boy & you know the bit getting off the cable car when Clint nearly falls? In the book Richard Burton sticks his Ice axe in Clint's hand to stop him falling ! Ouch - i was/am upset when that scene is ommitted from the film -as a 11 year old and 43 year old....ha.

Richard Burton AND Clint Eastwood take on the whole German army while swinging from a cable car. In the snow.

Great film but I preferred the Eagle has Landed for some reason.

I get slightly giddy when I see it on the TV listings even though I've got the (unwatched) DVD in the cupboard (next to Shakira and the olive oil). Weird.

I know what you mean. I think it's because it's back from that era when you only really saw films when they appeared on the tele. rather than whenever you wanted. it gave you a bit of anticipation rather than immediate gratification

Would it be completely wrong to have my fatbike repainted in those colours?

One of the first "proper" films I watched on tv with my dad. The ice axe bit makes me cringe still.....

Normally out on Friday but can't stand the pubs or town in the run up to Christmas so was resigned to night of crap telly. Then I saw this, does it get much better? Well, yes, thanks to footflaps. Looking forward to an evening of phoning everyone I know then hanging up when they answer so they phone me back.....

Burton's cable car/bike/snowplough-bus heroics AFTER he gets shot in the hand are awesome! It doesn't matter that none of the Nazis can shoot worth a damn, this is the stuff of legend. Plus, there's the brunette barmaid spy hottie... count me in! 😀

Oh, and Clint's in at number 10 on bodycount, too:

I'd have thought more, to be honest.

"The stereotypically German SS officer is funny"

I reckon The League of Gentlemen must have used him as an inspiration for Herr Flick.

Surely the inspiration for several scenes in Inglorious Basterds

I seem to recall that the cathedral was on the other side of the square

Is that the first ever two machine guns one in each hand clip? Nice. Burton is great as the classic English under-hero.

Anyone else notice the bit with the binoculars?

Basically, the bloke looking through them gets up, but the arms and hands holding the binoculars stay put?

PJM run it through Garageband and save as an m4v (I think it is). Import into iTunes and sync away. There are a load of resources available through your search engine of choice. (Mac instructions mainly mind).
