I've just had an email from Google for their "Pixel referral programme".  I'm sure I won't be the only one on here. If I refer "a friend" with a code, they get 15% off a new Pixel from the official Google online store, and I get a voucher to use against my next upgrade.  Seems like a good deal to me.

You need a Google account to use the code. I think I can generate up to 10 codes but each can only be used once.  If you are in the market for a new Pixel let me know.  Info from Google on how it works:

"When I refer someone, what does that person get?

Code receivers will receive a discount that can be applied to the highest value Pixel phone in their basket at the time of checkout. The referral code may be combined with other offers, but can't be used during certain peak times like Black Friday or new product launches".

Don't think I'd jump on that, likely to be plenty of deals on new phones in the next few months.

Wouldn’t jump on a pixel either; garbage quality control and support.

I got the same.

I've not really got any need for an upgrade though, I've got a Pixel 8 Pro which is brilliant and only a year or so old. My previous Pixel phone (a 4 or 5 something?) lasted me about 4 years, was really reliable and good battery life.

I hate changing phones now - so much stuff pairs to a phone, it's a complete reset of everything from online banking to Di2. Bring back the simple days when it was just a few dozen phone numbers...

Not my experience, I'm on my third.  I've had iphones, Samsungs etc. I prefer Pixels and will stick with them for the foreseeable.  We all like different things, it's all good 🙂

Same. Got a 7a and won't change it until support runs out.

Then I'll buy another pixel.

Same, mines a 7a I think, had a 4a before that I think...  11 or 12 will probably be out by the time my 7 gets broken, battery worn out, or security updates stop, so i'll just do that when I need to.

EDIT; I've had android phones since day 1 - prior to my 4a ive had LG, Samsung, HTC, probably somehting else I cant remember.

The only real stand out one was the HTC M8 on account of its oustanding audio, and comming bundled with really decent ear buds.

In contrast, Google tried to neuter the battery of my 6a via an update and later offered 100 quid compensation because there was apparently a problem with them overheating, which I assume is a euphemism for 'probably about to catch fire'.

My wife has a 6a and has just gone through this. Your options are free battery replacement, £100 cash, £150 off a new phone. She took the £150 towards a new phone and got a 9a, which were also on offer for £240. And you get to keep the 6a. I think that's fair.  There was an issue with the batteries in some 6as but I don't think they've handled that badly in the circumstances.

We're a family of 4 Pixels out of 5 of us currently....

We've just got a Pixel 10 from ID which was less on a monthly contract with 50gb of data than buying from Google, including a trade in Google offered....

On a Pixel 6a here, which has had a smashed screen for most of its >2 year life so far and worked perfectly throughout. The only thing to have degraded in that time is my eyesight - I put on some readers in Sainsburys the other day and my phone was crystal clear again!

My 4a is now 5 years old. I think it was £299 new, which seems like a monster bargain now.
I keep looking at upgrading, but then can't really see what a new phone will do that this one won't. Once the cameras on phones reached that tipping point of being as good, or possibly better in some circumstances than a decent compact then I don't really see the reason to change.

I think the thing that will push me towards a new one is battery life, as it is starting to take a bit of a hit but given my work and driving habits, I have ample opportunity to top the battery up when needed.
Not sure if I'll keep with a Pixel when I replace it, or maybe try a Samsung or other brand. I had a Sony Xperia T years ago that I really liked, but am not sure where Sony are with their mobile phones these days and it would probably be a leftfield choice just for the sake of it.

I have had various Google pixel models, maybe every second year. I currently have the Pixel 10 and other than one major issue I had with the Google Pixel 6 (Google replaced it without hassle), I have found them to be reliable phones.

3-year-old Pixel 6 here.

Most reliable phone I have owned. I usually end up moving them on after 2 years but this feels like it will just keep going.

How have they got to the Pixel 10 already though 😲

Same here I like the fact that the Android version is untouched and as intended. At the back end of last year someone had a deal posted here with EE for a pixel 8A which I'm still using and we're probably the deal of the century (£200 ISH)

Pixel 3a XL here, over 5 years old, was run-out price when I bought it... battery is still fine, tho I do notice it's getting a bit slower doing stuff at times - off/on every few days helps. Can't see me replacing it for a year or 2 yet.

So my pixel 3a was brilliant, only reason had to get rid was after 5yrs it was starting to need rebooting and apps stopped working.

Got an 8a as replacement and it's s@#t!

Finger print reader useless

Touchscreen not as responsive somehow, coupled with the finger print read makes unlocking ridiculous.

Generally the whole use experience (and I hate that term) seems to be worse.

I won't buy another.

Daughters Pixel 5 just stopped working one day last year, motherboard failure according to the IFixIt guys, they reckon it's very common in pixels.

got a 9a, which were also on offer for £240.

Where did you see that offer???

I'm impressed with Pixel devices. Have had three now and all been good quality. Caveated obviously that Google technical support is simply awful beyond belief if you do have problems. The Pixel 10 Pro is a bit of a brick in comparison to the older versions (well, before the 9 anyway). Don't understand why there's a need to put a heavy glass back on anything that's both droppable and kept in a case.

That was the price after she cashed in her voucher for £150 for her 6a with the dodgy battery

Just ordered an Exposure Maxx-D mk17 (the brand new one) from Start Fitness on eBay for £355 with the current 20% off code (STYLISH20). £100 cheaper than from them direct

Great flash on those, but I hear the camera isn't up to much.

I had a pixel 4a firye years which was great. My pixel 7a is very meh. Bigger and fingerprint sensor is junk. I am fairly sure it sneakily supplements the fingerprint with facial recognition. Won't get another.

Out of interest, have you put a screen protector on this phone? If so, was it a "Google approved" screen protector (it's a thing, apparently...)

I've got a Pixel 6a and its finger print reader is also useless BUT I know I've got a very cheap screen protector on it...🤷

As mentioned above, the slight proviso with older Pixels now is that Google seems to have had a dodgy battery supplier, and some models are now running into issues.

Late last year(?) Google pushed out an update to Pixel 4as that ripped up the battery life - mine went from about a day and a half between charges to about 9 hours. Last month they did the same for the Pixel 6a; and there are a couple of stories online of Pixel 7a owners finding their phones' batteries expanding and overheating.

That said, I have a Pixel 8a right now, bought when the 4a got nerfed, and love it. Apart from the fact that I keep dropping it and have already had to replace the screen twice

Sorry, is this a known issue?

My Pixel 6a's battery seems to have given up all of a sudden, it's running out of charge in about 6 hours (used to last about 24). I'd assumed that it was just age and the battery not holding charge.

I've been eying up an 8a and a £150 would ease the outlay (I'm not a power user and would be quite happy sticking with the 6a for years to come if the battery wasn't playing up).

Ah, I've just had an online chat with Google Support and after typing in some long number out of my phone it appears mine isn't affected, maybe it's just on the way out.

Anyway it appear that there are likely to be some good deals come from 26/09/25 (something to do with Google's 27th year) so it might be worth checking back then.

Yes it's known issue.  Details here. Not all 6as are affected but you type your IMEI number in and it tells you straight away if yours is.  If it is, it's then fairly straightforward to sort out free battery replacement, £100 cash or £150 voucher.

Not sure it's the on that came with the phone, it's on the list of things to buy.
