Wednesday eve, Sky Atlantic. It's one of the best series ever on TV, I din't think they were making a 2nd series, but here it is.
You've got til 9pm to catch up on series 1, if you foolishly missed it.

No spoilers, but despite still trying to get over the stupid ending of season 1, I am pumped for this. And by stupid I mean one precise event that only happened in order to facilitate events for season 2.

On a sidenote, it would be real handy if we had a spoiler tag like other forums do. So any text you put between the

Spoiler
tag is blacked out so no-one can inadvertently read it.

Cheers.

I binge watched series one while ill.

Not sure if it was the greatest TV show ever, but it was certainly dark as ****.

Can't honestly remember the end of series 1 being bad. Might have to watch the catch up myself.

It wasn't a bad ending, Dez. It's just something that Ciro did NOT do at the end, which any other time he would have. The only reason for this discrepancy was to create a plot arc for season 2, especially given what was at stake and the risk of it not going 100% to plan.

....although they could pull a switcheroo and I am completely wrong.

Right...just finished up watching S02. Really great season, but they really cannot do endings. Without using spoilers, it was pretty cheesy with the whole circle of life trope, and just felt rushed.

On a side-note, I almost had to turn it off half way through the last episode when you know what happened.

Also just finished series 2 last night. Really like that series, and as I assume there won't be a series 3 they're not running the risk of flogging a dead horse.

Thinking about it, there were no dead horses, which is strange, as everything else got massacred.

Anyone seen the movie or read the book? What Roberto Saviano went through to write the book is pretty interesting.

He made an appearance at the Hay festival a few weeks ago, still with a personal protection detail.

Gutted it's finished. Went so quickly with the 2 episodes per week. Utterly brilliant.

I've got a couple of episodes left, really enjoying it - maybe more than S1. Embracing the bleakness.

Did get a bit predictable in the middle of the series where they'd focus on one of the characters, showing you their home life - and you'd know they were about to be murdered.

Yeah, there is some obvious signposting at times. It wasn't quite 'I'm only 1 day from retirement', but not far off. But they did manage to play with it. I was sure, spoiler avoiding, the song of the King with the large cat was dead, then I thought he was safe, but they twisted it again.

Surprised the messenger was happy to get it on with Mr Happy despite knowing he'd made the order to do the most heinous of hits.

Not sure she was happy or terrified!

Seasons 3 and 4 were confirmed last month, looking forward to them!

I think they are positioning her into some kind of Michael Corleone role. Brought in against her will, but will turn into a formidable leader....probably preggers as well I guess.

At the end of the day, he who kissed his necklace before pulling the trigger is still alive, so the structure is all there. Just needs the leader. And I think he would follow her as she's shown her smarts in getting the Association to turn on each other.

Just a shame we have to wait again 🙁

Anyway, here is a pic of Denise Capezza who plays Marinella at the season 2 premier 😯

Also, Blu-Ray, for those without Sky Atlantic, is out mid-July.

...and after binge watching the season over the weekend, and getting so involved in the characters, this just seems weird:

Possibly, Patrizia did show some mettle in the fish factory. There's definitely a lot of legs in this, especially after Genny setting up his FiL in Rome. I know he has his eye on the bigger picture now but I reckon Malamore will bring him back - he has some respect from the alley kids.

Edit, that linked picture 😯

Thought they were gonna end it there, but that's great news.

At the risk of sounding like a snob, the one thing I love about the show is just how gaudy everything is. They have all this money, and yet their houses looks like Liberace just exploded in the front room.

Even when they go modern it still looks naff, in a good way. I was especially smitten by the classy dollar bill artwork, which appears to have Azzurra's face in it, in Genny and Azzurra's flat:

I always wonder why they don't live in a nice area and commute. 😀

The atmosphere is great all round really. They must use special filter to make the colours weird for the outside scenes, 'cos the whole of Italy isn't an absolute crap hole, as they appear to make it.

😀

As an aside - Most of you will probably have seen Romanzo Criminale, but check it out if not.

Similar stuff but with '70s threads and cars and slightly more sympathetic protagonists.

They had Romanzo Criminale on BBC4 a few years ago, broadcast after they ran out of Inspector Montalbano if I remember correctly. I.M. is good, bit odd with the Mr Bean style bumbling of Catarella but the scenery and photography make up for that.

On the subject of Italian based crime shows, I know it was English, but I quite enjoyed Zen. Mainly, like Montalbano, it was bloody gorgeous to look at.

The fact BBC axed it after one season just shows how idiots, like the cream, can rise to the top.

Although, as it was 5yrs ago I am probably misremembering and it was crap 😀
