Don’t forget to catch the Xmas special first, if you missed it in December. Very good.

I really, really want to like this, as it's essentially the Horrible Histories team, but it just hasn't done it for me the first two series.

Worth another go?

Worth another go?

If you didn't like the first two series, probably not.

It is beginning to be in need of a refresh - one of the current characters could do with disappearing and maybe a new ghost coming in. They've been through the background stories of most of the ghosts already so now it's variations on a theme of day-to-day goings on.

That said, it's still very well done.

A few weeks ago we were late back one day and Mrs P suggested we watched catchup on the England - Ukraine match. Unusual request (from either of us not being big football fans) but it had been a tough week, the night was still young, we were both game and so I sorted snacks and drinks tout-suite. Got settled.

About 5 mins into the match Mrs P hears voices outside. A curtain-twitch later and she was talking (shouting, in my book) to neighbours through the window. Out of consideration - I pause our match.

Neighbour’s kid: Aren’t you the watching the match?
Mrs P: ‘oh yeah we just started it, what’s the score?
(my brain): ‘wtfishappening???no no no…’
Neighbour’s kid: (Before I could cover my ears) “4 - nil to England, there’s only a couple of minutes left…”

My reaction surprised me. It was pretty much identical to Pat Butcher’s in this clip: (@40 secs) when Julian absentmindedly shits on his day.

We laughed since. (No such laughter on match night. #sulkbed)

it just hasn’t done it for me the first two series. Worth another go?

tbh, probably not. ‘if you don’t know me by now’ etc.

For me, it’s the funniest thing I’ve seen for the longest time. Lady Button’s ‘shocked Edwardian’ expressions alone have me in fits. ‘Julian Fawcett’ (the politician) is such a hilariously self-interested narcissistic nitwit that he’s possibly single-handedly (single-fingerdly?) saved me from depression in these real-life times of similarly de-trousered misanthropes running the show. Yes, I’m really grateful for Ghosts. It was a surprise joy.

Laughter’s a funny thing and milages vary depending on shape of funny-bone?

Not sure about a US remake...

^ Does seem to be an unwritten agreement with the US. ie we customarily mimic each other. At times obsessively and (usually) badly.

Nope. Nuh-uh. Negative. Nyet. FRO. So very sorry.

Right, well, thank you all, having not seen this at all we watched the first two of the first series last night. Excellent 🙂

And, also, I'm in love with Charlotte Ritchie.

It's brill! We watched the first two episodes of series 3 last night, it was obvious which bits were shot post-lockdown though 🤣 and the storyline of episode 2 looked like it had been written to allow for social distancing.

Finished season 3 last night. Brilliant TV.

Robin is my favourite character. "Errr... No."

Nice to see Humphrey getting more than a bit part too.

Still plenty of background stories to unearth, specifically Mary and Robin's demise. We also don't really know what happened to Kitty or who Julian was with at the time of his demise.

Apparently the cellar plague pit ghosts don't appear this series because it was impossible for them to do social distancing.

Which one crazy-legs?

Fanny's facial expressions are belly laugh inducing. Just brilliant.

And Robin's gormless expression makes me titter.

All the (dead) characters are essential. It’s a team creation, not the work of casting, and it shows.

I wasn't sure, I just thought early on in Series 3 that it needed something different but as the series went on (watched them on iplayer), it really settled into its stride. So yeah, I actually enjoyed it a lot.

What is a "Butt Ho?"

I probably missed if it was mentioned in the first couple of series but the intimation that anyone dying on the grounds would be trapped there forever (Julian panicking about Chumly Whatshisname carking it) is an interesting plot device in that new "dead" characters could be introduced.

Also in one of the first two series there was a sub-plot about Fanny throwing herself out of the window every night but that seems to have stopped.

There's a bit in the series 2 episode where the thieves steal all the wedding gear and Robin tries to run over the boundary and finds out he can't leave, so he howls for Chumly Whatshisname's "bitches". Which made me later think - wouldn't he have been the one ghost _most_ likely to have already discovered that?

Not quite as good as series 1 & 2 I thought, but still one of the funnier things on TV at the moment.

Robin has always been my favourite character.

'No zumba? but I want to work on my core'

Fanny is also great. I expect her to say 'Wicked child!' in a Blackadderesque style almost every episode.

Tried King Gary afterwards but it was just like watching a live action panto dame in Essex. Not my idea of funny.

That programme really is quite dire isn't it.
I do like Tom Davis though, thought he was great in Murder in Successville

Did we see the Christmas Special this year? Loved it - we're latecomers to Ghosts but it has properly grabbed hold of us, binged the whole thing twice in the last few months. Robin cracks me up, man - he's ace. 🙂

t Fanny throwing herself out of the window every night but that seems to have stopped.

Pretty sure they showed her doing this, during the latest series.

The Christmas special was just a perfect 30 minutes of tv.
Everything that is great about that series is condensed into one episode.
I pissed myself when Thomas opened his present.

I just watched the episode one of the American version of Ghosts !
Didn’t find it as bad as I thought it would be , but the characters don’t quite have that “English” charm about them .

US version is not bad. Different but similar. First episode a bit shaky improves thereafter.

Yeah the US version improves & just goes off in different unexplored directions. It lacks the subtlety of the UK one for sure i.e. the 'sucking off' joke flogged repeatedly & the gay characterisation turned up to classic sitcom level.
