As below really,
If you like cycling or you're interested in learning more about it, this one's for you. Register online at The National Cycling Show and enter the code MSE to get free weekend tickets for the Birmingham NEC show on Saturday 17 June and Sunday 18 June. The event takes place from 9am-5pm and you can use your ticket for both days. The event features talks from guest speakers Sir Chris Hoy, Ed Clancy OBE and more – see what else is on the agenda below.

There are 6,000 free tickets available until 11.59pm on Monday 1 May (or until they all go), which would usually cost £10 per adult (children aged 16 or under can attend for free). The National Cycling Show says there is no limit on how many tickets each household can get. This is a total freebie, so there should be nothing at all to pay once you've entered the code.

You'll receive a confirmation email from See Tickets once you've registered and the tickets will be sent to you via email a week before the event. You can either print these out or show them on your phone on the day.

I believe this show had terrible reviews last year, even people local to the NEC questioned whether it was worth it even with free tickets!

Some forum members who went last year posted that it was crap.
My eldest went and said exactly the same.
It will need much more than talks by big names from the cycling world to make it worth considering.

On a positive note, I’m sure that the constructive criticism will have been taken on board and it’ll be a lot better this year!

I had free tickets last year, reviews of the show were so bad I didn't go.

I went a couple of years ago, said I wouldn’t go again. There were some lovely bikes to see but that was about it. Even if the tickets are free paying nearly £20 to park for the day is still a bit steep…

Interesting. My wife has just got free tickets for the family, and has mentioned getting a hotel, etc. The website shows who is giving talks, and exhibitors, but tbh, there isn't much worth making a 300+mile round trip for. I might find a Plan B for that area on that weekend, especially as I'm the only cyclist in the house.

I've been to a few of them. I wouldn't bother going again.

Disclaimer: I work in the industry, so get chance to go to a few trade shows, so have usually seen all the new shiny kit before it gets shown at the Cycle Show. But then almost any decent cycling media outlet will have also seen this kit and talked about it and reviewed it in exhaustive detail too, so unless you really want to go and see something in the flesh you'll probably not see anything new.

If the Cycle Holidays area is there, that _might_ be a useful place to browse for ideas and to find new tour operators.

There's nowhere near the level of freebies or unique promo stuff handed out as there used to be years ago, and even the weird quirky brands and companies you only tend to see at expos seems to be diminishing too as the cost of exhibiting has risen.

same across all industries I think. Haven't been to our main trade show for nigh on 10 years now, used to be you'd come away with armfuls of swag, samples to try etc but last time I went it was a struggle to even bag a branded pen 😂

It's OK for an hour or 2. Have a stroll around, look at some shiny stuff, maybe see a talk or 2.
I'd not go out of my way to go, but as it's 30 mins from home I may pop up.

my review of last year (or whenever it was I last went) is that I can't remember much about it except the tedious hi-viz jobsworth who after I'd had my 'secure cycle parking' sticker taken off my bike in order to wheel it inside (and him to hold the door open for me) to be Datatagged then tried to wrestle me to the ground on my way out 10 mins later for 'stealing a bike'. No amount of explaining, suggesting he remember letting me in a few mins before, offering to look at cctv with him or even getting the guy from Datatag to confirm I'd just brought my bike in to be marked would see him back down.

and a got a effin puncture on my way back, that I do bloody remember

EDIT - thinking about it, it must have been a couple of years ago as I was sent free tickets for the following year but didn't bother going.

Bringing this back to the surface, given its 4 days away. Is anyone planning to go? It's only going to cost me a daytripper ticket (for the Birmingham area) so I'm willing to give it a punt.

I'm going to have to dig out the classic stw forum gnarpoon tshirt, so I'll be easily recognisable.
