...for the PC master race that is.
Steam are offering a number of games until 0700 tomorrow (dunno which zone that is), I've linked the top 3 IMO but there are more.
First is the Tomb Raider reboot, no explanation required:

Next is Deiland, single player RPG, not played it yet but it seems to be well regarded:

Last is Goat of Duty. Imagine if you crossed Goat Simulator with Unreal Tournament. Yeah. Multiplayer, online, old school FPS. Had a shot last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, plays fine on my ancient system so nobody should have any issues if you bought your computer within the last 7 years.
Epic are also doing their normal free games, this month is Watchdogs which I've always fancied and The Stanley Parable. If you've never played or heard of it but appreciate surreal madness I recommend getting it.

GOG are also doing a load of retro games including a bundle of Ultima titles and Itch.io have some 100% reductions as well.
Thanks, got Tomb Raider.
I'm downloading Tomb Raider right now and I'll give that RPG a go too, thanks!
Nice PSA, may I ask a luddite question? Will an average to good win10 laptop run these games or will I download them to find I needed to buy a gaming PC?
Well worth checking out Tomb Raider, great game IMO and easily the best of the reboots.

Depends whether you've got an average to good graphics card.
They're free though, so one way to find out...
Is steam easy to use and worth downloading?
True, and yes Tomb Raider seems to work smoothly. Cheers OP.
(here replying to Cougar)
Nice one. That's just given me the kick I needed to install Steam on my chromebook.
Currently downloading TR, no idea what the controls will be though
Epic Games also do a free game every week, so worth keeping an eye on if you are looking for some cheap entertainment.

Yeah, I thought that when I bought it.
Until I got to the shootout in the temple with the staircase and it repeatedly and remorselessly kicked my arse until I just gave up on the whole thing.
Had Fallout New Vegas sitting unplayed on the laptop for ages now, so that's probably where my time is going over the next few weeks.
Thanks op
Still available for 15 minutes
All showing as you have to pay on my steam account
In almost the most trivial post ever, I can report that candy crush have activated unlimited play for the next 7 days.
If you like a bit of escape room puzzling there are some good ones here https://jayisgames.com/tag/escape/rating
They need flash. Easiest way I found was to open them in edge (built in to win 10, I think) then click on the game and select enable flash one time.
Most of them are quite small, kill a hour or two, and get the brain going. Just a little tip, don't play "Elements" first. It is by far the best game and will probably ruin the others. If you've never played before it'll take a few games and few hits/cheats to get your eye in.

Can't actually remember that bit, been a while since I played it. So I'm downloading it again, got plenty of time to play it now.

Currently the Stanley Parable which is quite entertaining in a meta, story-type way.
well I started downloading Tomb Raider last night when this PSA first hit. I am now on 75% so should get it done by tonight 🙂 The joys of 9 GB downloads and dial up broadband speeds!
Is steam easy to use and worth downloading?
In a word, yes.
In more words: It was (and pretty much still is) the defacto marketplace for PC games, There's a huge library, some excellent sales and plenty of useful features (cloud save, big picture mode etc).
Watchdogs has dropped on Epic Games for free today.
Is steam easy to use and worth downloading?
Yeah. It's akin to the Play Store / whatever Apple has. Paid and free-to-play apps of varying quality but some good stuff on there. One nice thing about Steam is that once you've logged in to your account you can access your library from wherever you are. You can also share libraries between 'family' members.
Other places worth signing up to / joining mailing lists:
gog.com - old classics tweaked to run on modern hardware along with some new stuff, DRM-free so you can just download the installer and run it wherever. They have a Steam-a-like app offering but I've never used it.
Humble Bundle - subscription service but they also do one-shot 'pay what you want' offerings which can be bundles of games, comics, books, all sorts of things.
Epic Games - regarded in some quarters as 'evil' for not paying devs very well and / or demanding exclusivity, but, hey, free shit.
GOG is to CD Projekt (of Witcher fame) what Steam is to Valve. Both are excellent in their own way and easy to use. GOG has some fantastic old stuff, I have Gobliins and Cannon Fodder sitting about somewhere...
