If you're a Windows user who uses the emoji keyboard (and if you aren't and want to, the keyboard shortcut for it is Win[.]), you've probably found that it's recently stopped working. There's the usual nonsense on the Internet about language packs and file integrity and suchlike, so here's how to actually fix it.
Go into Windows Update, select "View update history" near the bottom, then select "Uninstall updates." You'll be given a list of updates. At or near the top of the Microsoft Windows section you should see KB5062554. Right-click, Uninstall. 😺🙌📣

Mind. Blown.

Yes, a zero-day vulnerability in Microsoft SQL Server.
What version of Windows does this affect? I'm running Windows 11, it's bang up-to-date with no updates available* and KB5062554 isn't installed. I wonder if they pulled it at some point before my Windows Update found it?
(* and the emoji keyboard is working as normal)
Win10 I think.
Yes, a zero-day vulnerability in Microsoft SQL Server.
But you have to ask yourself why it's being patched with windows instead of the SQL patch cycle.

I had a bit of a dig around and found this
"some Windows components utilize a specific, internal SQL Server instance"
so that's probably why.
That was my suspicion but hadn't had time to dig.
"some Windows components utilize a specific, internal SQL Server instance"
Must be a component not installed on either of my Windows systems.Â
