AGV 'Café Racer' open face helmets at www.wheelup.it for £59. Includes peak and goggles. UK price £100-£150. Thought I'd give one a try. Will I die? (If I land on my face, definitely :-()

TBH I like having a full face helmet on a motorbike for the extra protection it gives my, admittedly quite ugly face should I come off 😉

I just Goggled 'open face helmet crash', try it, should put you off. I also found out that 36.4% of helmet impacts are on the chin if you need anymore convincing.
Just look at it as a way of avoiding the curent tragic hipster biker look.

i very much like the fact you used 'motorcyclist' and not biker, i hate being called a biker.

Why thanks boys. That's ruined my lunch and wasted me £60.

I genuinely never considered the safety aspect. Until just now 🙁

I can however, remember riding without a helmet, before the law came in.

True, but if you're on an Enfield you could be crashing faster on your Tripster?

I also found out that 36.4% of helmet impacts are on the chin
98% of impacts ocour somewhere other than the head (and 9 out of 10 statisitics are made up by cats).

Not an Enfield, a Bonneville. Only slightly faster.

I love an open face lid. Worn one for years on the scooter. Tried it on my Monster once but it's hard to breath above 70. The speed takes your breath away. Oddly I always found them quieter than full face lids because they sit tightly round your face and over your ears. Sunny day and the right bike and they're brilliant.

Having once had a stag beetle hit me through my open visor I wouldn't bother with an open face even if I didn't think about the consequences of a crash. Any reasonably large juicy insect hurts enough and as PP says breathing gets harder at speed.

It's a total mystery to me why dogs appear to love sticking their heads out of car windows ❓

That's why dogs stick their heads out of car windows.

They want to see motorsicklists, like the best of God's creatures.
