£1.25 in Asda on sale. Fairly decent too, nice handle and a good lock.

I'll have a look at my local one today, there's loads of branches that need trimming back on the trails by me.

As this is STW I am obliged to suggest that you all ignore this PSA and spend approx 20x more on a Bahco Laplander. You are welcome

I so, but I find the cheap ones go blunt pretty quickly.

Depends if you're just doing a bit of tidying or more significant work.

If you're going to up your game, go straight for a Silky. My laplander hasn't had a look in since. Many Silky saws available (I personally have the pocket boy and the gomboy, both ace)

Laplander? Cheap shite, as above get a silky and you won't look back.
The bigger silkys also work really well for chopping back bracken too.

The Laplander is just a little girl. The Silky big boy is the mamma. And fits in a Evoc pack. Big Boy 2000

That's the silky saw that works. If you get the outback version the blade is stronger so you can do some hack and slash gardening on green stuff blocking trails too

I've got this - https://www.silky-europe.com/pruning-saw-zubat-300-7-5 - will cut through pretty much all wood, obviously takes a while longer on the really big stuff, but it is brilliant.

It's amazing. Everyone who has used it wants one - we've cleared some seriously large fallen trees going in from both sides and underneath with it. You can pretty much cut something the full length of the blade.

The 240 version is handy as well. (comes with a case/fits in a smaller pack)

Not sure the Outback blade is stronger - the coating is meant to be 'slippy' I think, but mine is starting to wear off and it doesn't seem any better in use than the standard one.

The asda one's actualy decent- cuts about as well as my little foldy bahco, good option to live in a camelbak and ideal as a root saw

The gomboy is awesome... Proteco do a half decent cheap knockoff, but, my pound shop recommendation for bigger cuts is this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-868611-Pruning-Sheath-Blade/dp/B000LFVT5Y/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1J6WAQ0ND5C5B&keywords=silverline+pruning+saw&qid=1657638306&sprefix=silverline+pruning+saw%2Caps%2C101&sr=8-6

Cheap enough not to fuss over, cuts well, has a great shaped handle (which loosens and falls off, but that's easily fixed). Not as tiny as a small folder but in practice in a backpack its still pretty practical

probably depends where youre carrying it.

Out on your bike, doing a bit of community service trail or bridlepath maintenance is proably looked on more kindly than tucked in a jacket on a friday night in some horrid student bar.

In all seriousness i suspect its down to the officers judgement. If youre attitude is ok, and you dont look shady they are more likely to suggest you take it home and dont bring it out again?

Tucked in a camelback out the way, they woudlnt even know unless they caught you doing actual pruning.

Silky all the way.
So much better than a few cheap versions I've tried.
Can even cut stuff a fair bit bigger than the blade.

I often ride with my folding silky straped to my frame and sometimes my Gomtaro 300 but thats normally in my bag.
Never even considered legal implications but have definitely thought about using it to cut a few idiots up and bury them in a shallow ditch.

Silky here too. So much better than the cheap one I used to have.

It’s cleared some pretty big trees on the trails plus done loads in the garden.

Peak STW - £1.25 Asda saw and then a mass pile on and now you need a €80+ Japanese tree ninja saw and a backpacking bike to carry it.

ITS A £1.25 FOLDING WOOD SAW FFS. Thanks for the PSA!

The PSA was ok, but if you use a folding saw then it is also a PSA to say what lasts, is repairable and will work for a long time. We need to get past making cheap disposable crap in society as it is not sustainable. Btw silky saws are not all massively expensive the one on the link is £32.

not being a billionaire right now, it seems better to have several asda/poundland cheapo bits and pieces to survive on, until those billions reach my account, and then buy the harrods diamond encrusted nuke-proof versions
It is time to get a new folding saw, but this one has had quite a lot of use and definitely paid for its keep
Nothing comes close when it comes to it for keeping in your bag for clearing a tree blocking the trail in the jungle on the motorbike

@dropoff
Thanks.
@rustynissanprairie
Your right!

Also, I got and use on nearly all rides a Wilkinson Sword saw. Got £4 from B&Q about 5 years ago. Still solid and cuts OK.

Aldi/Lidl saws have been OK BTW.

Dont need a Ninja Saw just yet ;).

PS who hides tools in the woods. Loads of saws hidden, especially ex fly tip cross cuts.

Trouble is I forget where I've put some of them....along with rakes, spades etc.

Anyway, I dont carry a saw anymore. I just mark the tree with a yellow dot and get my groundmans to come and cut it back.

Anyway, who shops at ASDA on here? Who would even enter one of those type of establishments ;).

Blue Collar MTB'ers like most of us.
