That X15 opening scene is awesome (if unlikely)! 🙂

Is it any good?

I quite fancy it, but bits of action interspersed between Ryan gosling staring mutely into the middle distance gets a bit samey after the first hour or so

I didn't like it as much as I hoped for exactly that reason. Would probably give it another go though.

Ryan Gosling = Adam Sandler level of never watching anything he's in.

You're shooting yourself in the foot there, as now you can't watch the Barbie movie

It's a based-on-history-but-still-fictionalised account of a deeply private, deeply uninterested in fame or heroics kind of guy, so the bits of wild speculation about what he might be Gosling-off-into-the-middle-distancing about are speculative and annoying, and some bits are plainly made up. That said, it has X15 and Apollo 11 in it, which automatically makes it ace. My favourite Armstrong fact - only 12 men flew X15, and only 12 men walked on the moon (so far). Armstrong is the only person to have done both.... 🙂

Worth watching for the nearly real-time sequence of the moon landing IMHO. The music is great too,

The part that stuck with me was the Gemini 8 flight. I was totally ignorant of that one (trying not to spoiler for anyone is a similar state)

Thought it was a bit miserable. There was in interview with one of the few remaining Apollo era astronauts IIRC and he said that what the film didn't show was the joy.

What mashr said - it's pretty underwhelming. I thought I must have missed something about it so I gave it another crack a few months later. Still meh. For me it managed to be too action-light to be an action film and too emotionally unengaging to work on that level either. I mean, it's not awful...

Watch Apollo 11 movie and see it for real - good soundtrack on that one too
