He has a cycling series on C4. Pootling around with other comedians on his bike.

First episode on 4OD. Easy watching.

Saw the ads, might be a nice bit of escapist tv during these long nights.

Wasn't sure how it would be as I find him a bit hit and miss, but not heard anyone say they didn't enjoy it, so I'll add it to the list to catch up on

Did anyone else notice that David's bags all seem to be Restrap?

No but I did noticed they were thanked in the credits

In the same vein I caught an episode of Roaming in the Wild on iplayer where two friends cycled from John O Groats to Cape Wrath.

Gentle programme with great photography - two series worth of this stuff:

Enjoyed it - it's basically Paul and Bob Go Fishing but on bikes...

Suspect the upcoming Grayson Perry episode won't be quite so genteel?

Exactly how I described it to a friend. Food for the soul.

Cheers! Enjoying it. The ads soil the easy-going flow, though, don't they?

I chose not to correct that typo.

What Raleigh is David on, do we reckon?

Very easy viewing, and very Whitehouse and Mortimer. The ads are annoying though.

MrsMC is a Sussex girl and her grandad worked on the building of the power station at Dungeness, so nice familiar scenery

I'm going against the flow here but I thought it was rather boring. I found David slightly irritating, and they didn't have the easy rapport that W+M have. It felt too forced for me. The fact that they are on bikes should be interesting for me, as an avid cyclist, but there was basically no mention of the mode of transport, where they were, what they were doing. It was just a slow paced, slightly awkward interview in nice scenery. I don't think there's enough to make me carry on watching.

I enjoyed it - never heard of the main fella but thought he was good; Richard Ayoade is great obviously! Also it was somewhat local to me so recognised a lot of the locations. Need to watch it again more closely & figure out where that caff is as it looked good 😃

That was my worry - they both play that socially awkward persona which can grate with me a bit, but got away with it this time.

I think some of the other guests will be much better, especially Grayson Perry

Agree. Though the ads are easily dealt with by watching it on catch-up which is what we did.

They deserve some kind of award for stringing out a 20 mile ride over a billiard table for two days!

Nice enough TV, but may have been better as a 30min show, just to stoke up the tension 😂

Yes, obviously, but it's not going to work well for everyone. It didn't for me, despite loving what Ayoade does.

Agree with IdleJon on this one. I wanted to like it, but found it dull and not that funny.

Clearly aiming to be a biking version of Whitehouse and Mortimer with the nice views and comic banter, but missing the soul and charm. Maybe with other guests there will be more chemistry.

I kind of agree, it was a little boring and awkward. I'm a big fan of David O'Doherty, and bikes, and when he talks obsessively about old bikes or the Tour de France on his podcast it is usually funny and interesting (but maybe a bit niche for mainstream telly). His interview with Paul Kimmage from last year is worth a listen - depending on your tolerance for Paul Kimmage.

Anyway I'm glad people generally liked the show and will be watching the Grayson Perry one for sure.

You weren't watching closely were you, they must have mentioned Appledore about a dozen times ;o) Cake looked excellent.

The fishing one is different as the 2 people have a long standing friendship so already have great rapport and camaraderie between themselves. I think this biking one is different people each time so that long standing friendship thing may not be as strong.

That climb out of Hay looked wonderful, definitely gone on to my to-do list.

Enjoying the show overall, just lacks a little something. Would have been more interesting to hear Grayson's thoughts on the host wearing a Rapha lifestyle hoodie.

Already commented on the Guy Martin thread, but just as relevant here - 1 hour of Guy Martin followed by Grayson Perry, quite some juxtaposition! I think I'd like to see them do some telly together. 😁

Also like that jacket O'Doherty was wearing. This one I assume. Shame they've got none of the more interesting colour options left at the sale price. He must have been sweating like Prince Andrew at a Pizza Express birthday party wearing it all that first day though.

I think David would have less issues with his gears if he stopped dropping his bike on the derailleur!

See they didn't bother covering up Grayson's Nukeproof logo, wonder what they've got against Rapha 🙂

Heh, +1 on dropping his bike. His throw wasn't as good as David Millar either.

Perry only had one volume, tranquil riding it is not

I had one of those Rapha Anoraks, it arrived with about 15 tears in the material. To be honest it was one layer "goretex" and was no where near the quality you'd expect for the £250 asking price. I paid £150 and that's still more than it looked like it was worth. Rapha refunded me but avoid that jacket.

Blimey, just remembered I had this on my Sky box... After that, Grayson Perry is certainly not someone I'd like to spend a day on a bike with. No wonder Hannah didn't enjoy his company on that interview.
Oh and O'Doherty's jacket/hat combo is Bleurgh 🤢
Lovely ride though.

The Mel episode is the worse so far. Would have been fine without the two of them and just an 45 mins of the scenery

I’m quite happy to spend 45 minutes watching people bimble about on bikes. It’s pleasant undemanding stuff.

Wasn't keen on the first.
Not a fan of the nerdy bloke to be honest.

What really did for me though was in the cafe, David said 'can I please get?'
Sorry, but that phrase causes my skin to melt 😂

Just watching the Grayson one.
Hmmm, he comes across as a bit of a dick too. 🤔
Normally I'm a fan.

They're certainly cycling a lot faster than they did with the nerdy bloke.

I enjoyed the latest one but that's probably because I've ridden most of that route and I love the area. It's a great place to ride a bike.

Grayson was probably just peed off that they were bypassing loads of fantastic mountain bike terrain.

I enjoyed the one with Mel too, but as above no doubt helped by knowing the area somewhat and having a crush on holy island since a kid. Walked there and cycled there, but not swam there yet like Robson Green did a while back.

I've really enjoyed them all for the easy entertainment they are.

Started watching the first one but it was too boring.

Grayson Perry one was ok but not brilliant. I thought Grayson came across ok. A little bit opinionated, a little bit loud and very much full of himself. However, that's what you need on telly sometimes isn't it?

I was more annoyed by the soppy beigeness of David O'docherty TBH

I'm not going to rush to watch the rest of them.

I too disliked E1. I got the impression Mr Ayoade wasn't really enjoying it and the whole episode was just padded out with dull non-bants.

Much preferred E2 because Grayson brought some much needed energy and enthusiasm that David fed off. Yes, he's loud and and in yer face, but IMO he wasn't offensive or OTT. He just seemed genuinely happy to spend a couple of faffing round with another funny bloke on bikes.

I really like where they have gone for their bimbles, but I would never have guessed he was a comedian.
Spacemonkey,I thought the same about Mr Ayoade, all a bit forced and slightly awkward .
Grayson is always Grayson so that was almost ok.
Putting big flappy bags on your feet to go through a ford was just pointless, stupid and not funny.
I think Mortimer and Whitehouse could do a better show if they swapped the fishing rods for bikes and invited some of their pals to go for a cycle.

Caught the second half of the Northumberland one live this week and enjoyed it mainly because it was recognisable scenery and people on bikes is always good. Found him a bit grating but I quite like Mel G.
Watched the Grayson episode and enjoyed it more. I’m a big GP fan and thought he had turned up the opionatedness a bit too much. Liked the fact that he was on a mid 90s hardtail with 26er slicks v brakes and a steerer tube extender but still had fun and showed D O’D how to ride. Im sure I’ll watch the first one and any more that come out. Not as good as the fishing prog but similar vein as someone said

Enjoying them all so far, those commenting about DOD and RA mustn’t have watched much of their stuff before, most of their careers are based on being forced and awkward, I found this episode quite funny

Quite enjoyed the Joe Wilkinson episode, he was a bit calmer than usual.

Suffolk is definitely a place I want to explore by bike.

I have only watched the first episode so far but I like both David O'Doherty and Richard Ayoade anyway. I found some of the real Richard Ayoade was on display here, very unusual for him to show that, it was subtle but definitely a little different compared to all of his other TV appearances. His books even read like his appearances on TV.
