I spotted mulled wine on the shelves last week, nearly got some - though I suspect it's there year-round now.

You know Christmas is nearly here when the competition to outgrump all the other grumps kicks in.

You started christmas Matt, its your fault.

Christmas is great, once Halloween (the warm up grumpathon, easter being the warm down) i will fully engage in childlike wonder and excitement.

1st day of the (English) school holidays and our local

big Tesco was stuffed with:

a) back to school stuff (ok, sort of get that)

b) Halloween decorations and costumes (hmmm)

c) massive displays of quality streets/roses etc for Christmas. WTAF?

I quite fancy a mince pie right now. Unfortunately I have to go to Tesco later so if there are mince pies I'll be having some.

Reframe your thought process Matt.

Christmas is merely the bringing to the end of moncepie season.

Johnners, buy some moncemeat ina jar and have mince pies whenever you want?

Thanks, but I want a mince pie after I've been to Tesco and bought some which somebody else has baked for me. I think my plan works better for that.

People complaining that "it gets earlier every year" get earlier every year.

If it were true, we'd be gearing up for Christmas 2025 by now.

(-:

I'd agree, the local bakery sells them year round, but unlike tescos/sainsbury's they aren't sat in christmas themed box. I have to say this is stupidly early, when there's halloween shite to deal with first

Tesco must be slow, Morrisons had the advent calendars out on Saturday.

The Christmas stuff always comes out before Halloween stuff. It's not because people necessarily start buying for Christmas early. It's just because there's a supermarket aisle 'zone' for seasonal goods. In the spring and summer they come in quite quick succession  Valentines, Easter, Summer/garden/BBQ, Back to school. Once the summer is by theres not really any seasonal stuff to put out until halloween and Christmas and halloween only has a relatively short build up. So the Christmas stuff is generally just there instead of having empty shelves and a lot of it (quality street etc) is gifty/treaty without actually being specifically festive so theres a chance bits of it might sell. But it's not there because the shop expects people to start buying it right now.

If your bothered about Christmas stuff coming out early we need to beatify someone cool that everyone would like to celebrate with a feast in late September, September's a bit of feast-day desert currently

There could be secular celebrations maybe. Yesterday was 'Random Acts of Kindness Day' in New Zealand, theres Nathonal Steak Au Poivre day in the US next week, we could campaign for that to be a global celebration. September is also 'Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month'.

I'm genuinely concerned for my mental health in the lead up to this Christmas now that I'm having to endure commercial radio all day.

I imagine that onslaught will commence fairly soon too.

my birthday is mid Sep, and I always like to wind up my grumpier colleagues by bringing some supermarket mince pies into the office to celebrate.  I've been here 10 years now so September mince pies isn't a particularly recent thing!

Apparently sometimes radios can sometimes get hit with hammers, of filled with expanding foam, or fall out windows when theres no-one looking. Something to do with poltergeists I think.

Love the run up. Favourite time of the year Autumn. Having worked in retail and then more recently at Center Parcs there was always a lot of preparation and work to do to get ready for the first weekend after Bonfire Night. That’s when it properly kicks off in those sectors. This year I’m working in the public sector so Christmas will be starting later. We always watch Miracle on 34th around Thanksgiving. Feels proper festive by then.

This afternoon I walked down the famous York street - ‘The Shambles’. There was a flippin’ Christmas shop. The tourists were loving it, arrgghh.

Most touristy places have an all year Christmas Shop. How else do people like MrsMC buy souvenir baubles to hang on the tree to remind them where they went that year?

(Edinburgh bauble purchased a fortnight ago from an establishment on the Royal Mile)
