Restoring classic motors and rebuilding dreams, Car S.O.S is back with its biggest challenges yet!
Starts Thursday at 8pm, only on National Geographic.
AND they're doing a 6R4 this series.
6R4 was the last episode from the last series that was never shown.
Hopefully that will be the first. Should be interesting...
Cheers for that, I’d not noticed. Always wondered if I’d missed 6r4 last series and it’s never been on repeat.
Was in the press last week about the 6R4 'shell' that had been 'found'. Pics look amazing. Mad car having had a New Rover Metro GTA as a 20 year old, that was bad enough - Golf GTI 16v chaser as it weighed nothing.
Great show
Is this not a dogging documentary, then ?
An odd story at about 3:00 in
Got all excited for nothing.....freeview....
For some reason National Geo is now available to me (pov spec Virgin) So been catching up on recent ones that have not dropped down to freeview yet. Tim's 'blags' grate on me but otherwise great show, Looking forward to this.
a car show that actually makes me tear up on occasion. especially when the owner has a terminal illness and gets one last ride in their restored pride and joy
My 9yr old loves this show he's been lapping up the first 6 seasons on Disney+ (I may enjoy watching it with him). Thanks for the PSA!
Mmmm Season 8 returned March 2020!
I really enjoy Car sosage, the back stories are good (or worthy) and some of the car repairs amazing (welding complete rust bucket back together in a good way). Tim's acting/blagging is awful but I imagine that just part of the act/show, so it's expected, and no doubt he's embarrassed about it too. I just wish they stop talking to us like 5 years olds, who don't know how the basic of an engine works, every time they did a repair

From what I remember from the Car SOS FB group (yes, massive fan, tragically so) the 6R4 was meant to be the big finale to the last series, but because of Covid and other things it was delayed, they were desperately trying to hide the fact there was a 6R4 in the series because they hadn't managed to hand it back it's owner when the series ended!
If anyone is wondering why people get so excited about an old Metro, it's worth a bit of research. It's not really a Metro, it's s sort of looks like a Metro bespoke rally car developed by Williams F1
The challenge to get parts for it must have been immense. Rare really doesn't do it justice, they made way more Ferrari F40s, F50s and Enzos, More Veyrons, more McLaren P1s and more XJ220s than they did 6R4s and those Manufacturers still exist.
I'm genuinely excited to see how it goes.
I shoulda read this thread better before I commented.

Yeh 6R4 showing as 'new' on my Planner.
Never seen it, but just spotted S1-7 are on Disney+, will give it a go.
Yeh S7 turned up in the last week or so.

Hope you enjoy it, I love it.
It's like the anti-Wheeler Dealers, in a good way. Doing nice things for people who deserve it, rather than making a sort of on-paper profit and far more involved restorations and often more interesting cars.

Found? I may have been meandering about the unipart warehouses by Long Lartin about 10 years ago (security guard was a m8) and there was at least 5 shells sitting around, never having been built. Friend actually had an original ex-rally one on the road, he's gutted now, as he sold it for pennies and it' worth a far bit now (though maintenance costs were killing it for him at the time.. £250 for a part worn tyre 10 years ago)

The 6R4 they took for a test drive on the track belongs to Dan Ellmore, the organiser of the Lincoln Grand Prix cycle race. Now that it's been screened, he's posted a load if pics and videos from the shoot on his FB page.
It's on Dailymotion if you can't find it elsewhere...
Fairly sure I had a replica 6R4 form my Scalextric, that and a BT Ford Sierra.
Went round the RaceRetro rally stage back in 2016 in this - the most exhilarating, violent thing I have ever been in! The clutchless gearchanges crashing home and the howl (and heat) from behind your head was just amazing 🙂

How much is that 6R4 now worth with its restoration and provenance?
£200k ish
I had a MG metro turbo I bought brand new when I was 19, that was a scary place to sit at anything over 80, I can't imagine what a 6R4 must be like at full chat
I did my driving lessons in a MG Metro Turbo. Red seat belts!
