Is a gentle 6 mile ebike ride on the flat going to skew the results?

Depend where you're heading to on the eBike... if' it's a local 'hotspot' then you should wait a few weeks after 'that'. But i rocking if just to the blood test appointemnt, it'll be fine.. 😉

Should be fine, yeah.

So many things can affect it... it would be interesting* to measure PSA before, and then shortly after, a big bowel motion.

Well IANAD and DrP is of course a doctor. But I was advised both by my family GP and the Marsden Hospital urology nurse not to ride for 48hrs before my PSA tests. And after taking their advice I got the two lowest results I’d ever had - which of course could be coincidental.

But if you got a slightly high result after cycling wouldn’t your first thought be “I wonder if the cycling caused that” and want to be retested?

As someone who has PSA tests every 3 months, there are definitely a few things which affect the results. Cycling, any hard exercise sesh or sex for at least a couple of days before will definitely raise it. I leave at least 48 hours for cycling and exercise, sex a lot longer - but not out of choice!

Anti inflammatories like ibuprofen will reduce PSA, so best avoid them too.  In my case it's the ongoing trend they are watching, an odd spike or drop isn't an issue on it's own but where that's happened I can usually attribute it to one of the above.

Is it purely sitting astride something or the exertion that is the issue?
Planned to dig holes on Sunday.

PSA testing (by itself) is a reasonably inaccurate measure anyway, you can have cancer and a low PSA and vice versa. Or a raised PSA can indicate a benign issue, plus PSA raises naturally with age.

I had psa tests every 6 months for a few years and was not advised about cycling etc. But this was without a prostate gland, it may be more complex if you still got one.

Need to lay off the ****ing too.

I have recurring infection in the gentleman’s department which raises my PSA so sometimes a course of antibiotics is advised. Current GP told me to wait 2 months after before doing the test which is not what my previous expensive urologist said, but hey ho.
